Daily Photo – Tunnels of Paris

I took this around midnight one evening while I was meandering around Paris. It’s really such a beautiful city to get lost in. Here’s a hot tip, btw. A lot of times. these photos will come out quite “orange” so it’s good to set your camera’s white balance to Tungsten to push the colors back into the cooler area.

Tokyo at Night

Daily Photo – Tokyo at Night

Are there any bad photos of Tokyo at night? Well, actually, yes, and I’ve taken most of them. Those are the ones I delete to hide my secret shame. But, every now and then, I get a cool shot like this and that makes me feel good about myself again before I start to swirl back down that shame spiral.

Heading to Tosca Di Angelo in Hong Kong

Daily Photo – Heading to Tosca Di Angelo in Hong Kong

When we started the tour across Asia, we began here at the Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong. It’s quite the showpiece! All of these hotels are nice, but this one was like extra-ritzy. This is one of the restaurants there called Tosca Di Angelo. The food was amazing and so was the photography options!

Kyoto Swimparty

Daily Photo – Kyoto Swimparty

I’m usually too busy in these cities to go for a swim, since I’m running around with my hair on fire taking photos. I often think, gee willickers, I should really have a swim and a relax. But I almost never do! If I have a little extra time, I try to hit the gym, which I enjoy more than swimming. Now that I think about it, I don’t really like swimming much at all. But I do like playing in the pool with my kids!

Getting Lost in Tokyo

Daily Photo – Getting Lost in Tokyo

If you get lost in Tokyo around the Shinjuku area, then you’re likely to find all sorts of little alleyways like this. Even the alleys in Japan are great! It’s always a toss-up as to which place I want to eat… they are all so good. I was considering taking up professional eating so I could train to consume more before next visiting.

Peace in the Mosque

Daily Photo – Peace in the Mosque

A few years ago I took the family on an around-the-world trip to study world religions. One of the three Muslim countries we visited was here in Egypt. The others were Oman and Qatar. Anyway, we visited a lot of mosques, and it was really cool for the kids to hear the call to prayer and see many of the traditions.

Daily Photo – Meandering through Hobbiton

How beautiful is Hobbiton? It feels like a movie set, and it actually is! Of course, it’s in New Zealand, and everything feels like a movie set anyway, so that adds to the luster. If I’m not mistaken, this area was in the first movie when Gandalf is riding into Hobbiton to make Frodo his tiny bitch and go do all the hard work while he just smokes a pipe and philosophizes.

The Little Pond Near my Home

Daily Photo – The Little Pond Near my Home

I often walk over here around sunset to this little peaceful pond in Dalefield. You can’t tell from this angle, but it’s actually in the shape of a heart, which fits many of my Disney romantic fantasies. Speaking of which, I think Disney has messed up a lot of people! A friend came over about a week ago and she studied Women’s Issues or something in college… she went on a long diatribe about sexism and stuff. I mostly was tuning her out because she was a woman, but she did have a few good points.

Hotpot Dining in Chengdu

Great Video on Darkness Retreats

I just finished watching this illuminating video on darkness retreats. I think I’ll try one.

Daily Photo – Hotpot Dining in Chengdu

Chengdu is famous for its hotpot restaurants, which basically means you have a pot in the middle of the table and everyone dumps various ingredients inside to cook. Then people just kind of use their chopsticks to pull out random stuff to eat. This particular restaurant was pretty cool and extra Chinese-extravagant.

Gaudi’s Masterpiece

Great Interview with Jason Silva and Erik Davis

Daily Photo – Gaudi’s Masterpiece

We were lucky to get a little bonus access to the Sagrada Familia and were able to get into the upper floors. These are quite hidden from the ground level and I never would have known they were there otherwise. I didn’t have to do anything special to get access, just a bit of planning ahead of time with their PR team.
