Mind if I Plug In?

Speaking of plugs and adapters

This is still a constant problem for me when I travel. Carrying around adapters and everything is just a big mess. I’d say that often whenever I get everything hooked up in the hotel room, from battery chargers to laptops to phones, that the outlet looks a bit like today’s phot

Daily Photo – Mind if I Plug In?

How insane is this wiring job? You see this kind of scene in a lot of Southeast Asian countries. I can’t make heads or tails of it, and it seems incredibly dangerous and confusing! Can you imagine if one of these poles fell over? Not only would it cause a terrible mess, but re-wiring everything would just about drive you insane.

Through the Thailand Jungles, I discovered this

Breaking Bad

I finally finished watching the last episodes of this awesome, crazy show! Anyone else out there enjoy it too? I can’t believe that last season… whoa!

Daily Photo – Through the Thailand Jungles, I discovered this

This is the best temple I’ve ever been to in the world! If you ever go to Thailand, be sure to go about 2 hours south of Bangkok to Pattaya to see this place! It’s absolutely beautiful and you’ll have a fabulous time. The nearby town of Pattaya is really worth a visit too, but it’s totally wild! There is a road there called “Walking Street” that is full of all kinds of interesting debauchery. A lot of ladyboys, crazy bars, strip clubs, and, well, just colorful characters everywhere… it’s really fun for street photography there too… Anyway, there’s a little ladyboy+temple advice for ya!

Dragontemple

Looking at the shapes

One thing I’ve been trying to do more and more is examine the outlined shapes of whatever I am photographing. Sometimes I get so caught up in the texture and detail that I forget that the overall shape is perhaps the most interesting part of that. Anyway, the more I start thinking about the shape, the more I end up with images like this new favorite one below.

Daily Photo – Dragontemple

Here’s a view of my favorite new temple as a vile light comes behind it. I love the shape of this place so much! It’s almost too good to be true. Sadly, I was kicked out when the sun started to go down, so this was one of the final shots I was able to finally eeeek out as I was walking away…

Temples in Thailand

Religious Architecture

I’m getting better and better at identifying a country just by looking at its religious buildings. Not always, though. Europe is really hard because most of the cathedrals look alike. The German ones stand out a bit more in their gothicness. The French ones tend to be a bit more ornate, as you’d expect. But in the Asian countries, there is a much bigger difference. The Japanese ones look nothing like the Thai ones which look nothing like the Chinese ones. It’s interesting!

Daily Photo – Temples in Thailand

Here’s another good spot that I found thanks to Stuck on Earth. It’s close to Bang Saray and is a very friendly walking-area. The whole place is very strange and full of surprises. I won’t tell you the surprises just in case you visit here some day. I’ll tell you this though: it’s a super-weird adventure with animals you’ve probably never heard of (I hadn’t!)

The Squid Boat

Waking up early for photos

You’ll see in the story below that I never actually got a photo of that amazing boat at night. I could have, if I wasn’t so lazy and wanted to see them come into port at 5 AM, but, honestly, I was way too lazy. That bed just feels so darned good. A comfy bed in the morning is my kryptonite.

Daily Photo – The Squid Boat

One thing you may notice from this photo are the huge lightbulbs. I’ve never seen such huge bulbs on a boat. But, apparently (and I did not see this), they light these boats up at night and the squid come flocking. This makes them very easy to catch! Maybe next time I go I’ll be able to see these guys in action… I think that would be an amazing photo – it’s on my to-photo list! 🙂

In Bang Saray at Karma Studios

Amazing time at Karma Sound Studios

When I was recently in Thailand, I spent the week staying at Karma Sound Studios. It was really incredible and fun! What an amazing place for people to collaborate and make some great music. I met all kinds of famous Thai musicians there… it was a really kinda strange and awesome week!

Daily Photo – Down on the Pier at Sunset

This is just a short walk from the studio. The sunsets in Thailand were amazing all week. I don’t know if they are always that good, but maybe! I don’t think I’ve been in a place where I had good sunsets for an entire week. Maybe in the Caribbean? Anyway, this place was really special because of all the squid boats. I’ll show you some cool shots of those as soon as I get around to processing them! 🙂

The Ancient Jungle

Found using Stuck On Earth!

You might recall this place from my recent Stuck On Earth video where I show how I discovered this spot!

Daily Photo – The Ancient Jungle

Here’s an amazing place I found somewhere near Bang Saray, Thailand. It was a VERY STRANGE place, actually. Everything was both authentic and fake in the sense that you get the feeling it was all built for people to visit rather than practical use. There were other parts of this place I did not photograph. Most of them involved having hundreds of fake strange animals in various poses. Imagine 100 lemurs doing strange things on rocks, and you can begin to get the idea. I feel like telling you that kind of ruins this photo, but, oh well… Actually, I can tell this place was not designed by any photographers because getting a good angle on anything was almost impossible. This is honestly the ONLY good angle in this area of strangeness.

The Sanctuary of Truth at Night

Finding this spot

I posted this last month, but I’m posting it again in case you missed it! It’s a new video I made in Thailand that shows how I found this spot! I used Stuck On Earth (free app!).

Daily Photo – The Sanctuary of Truth at Night

Finding this little spot was kind of lucky! It was really found because I was hiding from security in the bushes. I didn’t know if I was in trouble or not for being down here at night. Maybe I have a guilty conscience and that makes me paranoid. It’s not paranoia if it’s true – haha! Anyway, I was hiding in the bushes probably near a bunch of scary Thai snakes, and I saw this really nice reflection off the water. So I beat my way through a little-bit-o-jungle to get down to the water’s edge to get this shot.

How did I find awesome spots in Thailand?

New Video: How did I find awesome spots in Thailand?

I made this video that shows how I used Stuck On Earth (free app!) to find some cool spots. This video might show you some stuff about Stuck On Earth that you don’t know too! BTW, we just updated all versions. There seems to be something quirky with the Mac version and the way the update is (not) working. You may have to uninstall then re-install to get it to work right!

Daily Photo – Entering the Sanctuary of Truth

The Sanctuary of Truth, or, as I like to say, the ?????????????, is probably the most awesome temple I’ve ever seen. Everyone one of these statues is carved from wood. What is particularly interesting about this temple is it was started by a Thai businessman in 1981. That is kind of mind-blowing when you see the sheer epicness of this thing! You can see a bit more in the video above as well…
