Afternoon at The Hills

The Art Tour!

Here’s Part 2 of the Facebook Live art tour around Sir Michael’s home. He has one of my pieces hanging in the kitchen… that was from Part 1!

Daily Photo – Afternoon at The Hills

We took our workshop group out The Hills golf course in Arrowtown to take photos in the afternoon and sunset. Towards the end, we meandered over towards Sir Michael Hill’s house (The Lodge). Right before going inside for an art tour, we stopped at this little pond in his backyard. It’s always pretty back here, but the Autumn colors really pop.

Over the Harbour in Dubai

Thanks again Dubai Films

I wanted to thank the amazing team over at Dubai Films again for securing our helicopter ride here. What a blast! 🙂

Daily Photo – Over the Harbour in Dubai

There’s no chance of falling asleep while hanging out of a helicopter. I can’t think of a time I’ve been less sleepy, in fact. Come to think of it, the idea of taking a nap didn’t even cross my mind.

Wow, I took so many photos on this day — probably over 500. And there weren’t many stinkers in the bunch. It makes choosing the “best” ones more challenging, but it’s a good problem to have!

More Goodies from Burning Man

He rises from the desert. This is a great sculpture about becoming conscious and being the awareness inside your mind. You can even crawl in through the ear.

They don’t seem too alarmed.

This one is called “Oid,” a huge microbe 10,000x scale.

Aurora HDR 2017 is here, get it now!

It’s been a long two weeks but the wait is finally over, the new Aurora HDR 2017 for Macs is finally here and ready to download! I developed this software along with Skylum, an amazing company that has already created many other stunning photography tools for the Mac. The idea that after 10 years I finally got to create my own High Dynamic Range photography software and jam-pack it with all my favorite tricks was absolutely intoxicating!

I’ve been using this software now for a short eternity and we’ve taken my experience plus some great feedback from other users to create this new version. You can head over to our Aurora HDR 2017 Page see all the long list of new and improved features.

Note: Aurora HDR 2017 is still for Macs only. Yes, we truly are working on a Windows version (harder than it sounds) and when it’s released you will be the first to know!

Current Users of Aurora HDR Pro can upgrade for $49. Click here to find out if you qualify for an upgrade.

New Customers can Order Now for only $89, (Extended Pre-Order price for one week only until October 6).

New software… and new HDR tutorial to go with it!

It is an hour long Video tutorial to show how I use Aurora HDR 2017 in practically every situation. From outdoors to indoors, mixes to architecture, moving objects to single photos, people photos and everything in between. You’ll see how I use the tool in slightly different ways for all these situations. As usual, I start out the tutorials very slowly, aimed at total beginners. But then we move on to intermediate and advanced techniques.

Trey’s Super Bundle

If you’re feeling a little adventurous you should check out the Super Bundle which includes both Aurora HDR 2017 AND my full-length HDR Video Tutorial for Macs all in one, for cheaper than it would be to buy them separately 🙂

A beautiful sunrise on the southern tip of India

India Highlights

Here’s the highlights from that beautiful morning. I almost flew the quadcopter too, but it was just too windy… I may have never seen it again. Then again, I did crash it a few days later when a propeller fell off and the whole thing went down dramatically in a river in Kerala.

Daily Photo – A beautiful sunrise on the southern tip of India

I look like I may be alone here, but I assure you I was not. There were literally thousands of Indians that were there with me watching the sunrise. It was crazy! This is a famous pilgrimage location for all Indians, to come here and watch the sunrise. I was amazed how many people there were when the sun finally came up. We had all gotten there in the dark of night so it was hard to tell how many people were around us.

There was one scary point when we lost Scarlett in a crowd of Indians… then her little white body magically appeared about a minute later! I was not worried… Tina was MORE than a bit worried!

Euro Press Briefing

Aurora HDR 2017 Revealed — this is a private press webinar I did for European Press prior to release. It turned out kind of crazy haha… anyway, I thought you’d like to see because I show off a lot of cool features of the new software. Get the new Aurora HDR 2017 now.

Daily Photo – Wise Elephant

Here’s the rescue elephant we met in Thailand at the beach while at Phulay Bay. The girls got to feed Coco and she was very gentle. I’ve grown to really love elephants more and more. I always kinda “liked” them from television, but the more time I spend up close to them… I can really sense something. Or, at least, I think I can.

I can’t imagine what it is like to get so fixed up and then walk around and pose for 10 hours a day. Maybe that’s what it’s like to be a woman all the time?!?! hehe I don’t know… But it was great from my point of view, being on the other side of the camera! 🙂

Way High in the Mountains

Live Critiques

I did some critiques live on Facebook in our Special Group a week ago or so. It was fun… maybe I should do more?

Daily Photo – Way High in the Mountains

One morning I got up before sunrise to drive over to Over The Top Helicopters to get a little vertical for the day. What an amazing morning and what majestic light… Hey I would have been happy even if the light was lousy — always grateful for a fun helicopter-photo-ride!

More Burning Man Love

And here’s the next batch of four! 🙂 Also, be sure to check out my Burning Man Portfolio.

There are secrets inside the Mona Lisa, once you know the right way to knock… That’s the new (number 6 I think!) art car from our Camp Walter called the “Mona Lisa,” and it’s a recreation of Leonardo Da Vinci’s tank from his sketchbook. This is the first night it was sighted moving across the desert, as if it was embarking on the northern African campaign during WWII. The only difference is it was full of music and a secret bar. If you knock twice on one of the panels, it secretly opens and you can go inside to get all top-shelf goodies. Next time, I’ll bring some of my favorite wines from New Zealand and add them to the supplies inside.

The Black Rock City Lighthouse Project. Believe it or not, when you get to the top of these things, everything may actually look straight! 🙂

Out in the deep playa is something called the “Trash Fence,” which is a multi-mile fence that catches any trash that might blow across the desert. There’s all kinds of unusual art way out there… it’s many miles away, but I often try to get out there to see what unusual stuff I can find… like this! To see how far away I am, you can barely see “The Man” over on the left side of the photo.

It was time for my annual visit to the Thunderdome, where they have nightly fights and all kinds of crazy action. What a fun night… here’s one of the emcees, directing the fighters in their bungee swings to their starting positions. She was no nonsense and not to be crossed!

Trey in Berlin Art Show!

Come join me in Berlin for a private art show! We’re calling it “Trey in Berlin,” and it’s perhaps the most cleverly named event we’ve ever come up with. Where do we come up with this stuff? It’s quite amazing, really.

Thursday night, September 29th from 7 till 10 PM. I’ll be doing a little art talk, Q & A, heaps of hanging out & mingling and this sort of thing. You know these go. Great fun!

Anyway, it’s a private event and there are not many spots available. If you’ll be in Berlin at the time and are interested, contact my assistant Ruby: [email protected]

Today I leave Cologne for Munich where I’ll be a few days before bringing the team to Berlin — very excited! 🙂

The Long Road to New Zealand This is one of countless beautiful roads that crisscross New Zealand. I'm afraid I've forgotten exactly where I was when I took this photo! I know that is very lame, but I bet people around here can help me pinpoint the area.As far as the camera settings, this is the kind of shot you can get with something called "compression," a method where you use a zoom lens and zoom in quite far. It takes images in the distance and makes them larger than life.- Trey RatcliffRead more here at the Stuck in Customs blog.
