Daily Photo – Making Bad Decisions with Stu in Auckland

My friend Stu has an awesome bach not too far from Auckland. It's up on top of a cliff, and the perfect place to make lots of bad decisions. Stu is really into fire, you see. Actually, I have noticed a very strong pyromaniac gene amongst many Kiwis. I don't know why this is… maybe because it gets cold here a lot, kids just learn to play with and love fire. Somehow, this quickly jumps the gap into explosives. And that's what we started doing here… there was quite a bit of chaos, especially when it fell over and started shooting in random directions!

Spending the Night on the North Island

The North Island of New Zealand

I need to spend more time in the North! I feel so New-Zealand-Lame! I spend SO much time in the South Island, exploring all the mountains and everything… so I am feeling like I am a little lost up there, you know? I gotta get my act together!

Daily Photo – Spending the Night on the North Island

I stayed for the night with my friend Stu Robertson at his amazing secret hidaway. It was awesome. We shot of fireworks and made all kinds of really bad decisions… at one point in the night, things were so lovely that I stopped for a moment to take this photo.

Amazing Auckland

For the Scholarship

I edited this photo live during the New Zealand Institute of Photographers (sounds important, doesn’t it? hehe) masterclass. I actually wanted to do the class for free, but I was told that was not good because it would make the other masters upset. Well… I thought that sounded like a silly reason, so I changed it up so that all the money raised would go to support a scholarship for students who want to join but can’t afford it.

Upcoming Events

I may have another upcoming event down on the South Island for locals… a free event. Perhaps down in Invercargill. I’ll update the blog when that happens! 🙂

Daily Photo – Handheld Glacier

Here’s a handheld glacier shot I took with the NEX-7 a few weeks ago. How old is that camera now? About a year and a half old? I dunno… anyway, I can’t wait to see what this new Sony can do… Moore’s Law in Effect! Yay! 🙂

The Fantasy Path

Post-processing on the Retina Display

When I was in Vancouver, I got one of the new Macbook Pros with the retina display. I have been truly impressed at the clarity and the colors… it is really so shocking! I knew it would be a little bit better, but I did not expect this level of improvement.

I’m really looking forward to retina external monitors, if those ever come out!

Daily Photo – The Fantasy Path

Here is another new photo from Auckland. Luckily, this amazing place was very close to my hotel. I saw it during the daytime and decided to pop over and visit it during the late evening… hoping that the lighting and the path would flow together nicely, and it did indeed work out!

Moving to New Zealand

Why Did I Move to New Zealand?

There’s a long story to it all… but I think you can see a lot of the reasons in the video below.

By the way, if you are looking to buy a house here and need a recommendation, contact me via [email protected] and the team will get you to me. I can make an excellent recommendation for you!

This video was made with Animoto!

I used a cool online thing called Animoto to make this video. I also wrote up a full Animoto Review here on the site.

You can also use the Animoto Coupon Code of “STUCKINCUSTOMS” to get 2 months free with a pro account… thanks for the team there for providing that for us!

New Video – Turning to Peace in New Zealand

It’s a hi-rez video… I recommend listening with earphones or good speakers too – enjoy 🙂

Auckland Harbor

In New Zealand!

After a crazy time in China, I am now in New Zealand for about a month.  This has been a truly adventurous trip, and it is exactly the kind of treasure I seek.  There is a part of me that always feels serene and harmonious when adventuring into the unknown.

We are looking for a new place to live, so we will be wandering around the South Island to look for some place cool. I’ll have more on an “official move” soon. People ask me all the time why I would move from USA to NZ, and I have a whole list!

And thank you for all the suggestions on where to stay in the South Island.  It’s a great list and we are still working through it! 🙂

Daily Photo – Auckland Harbor

When we were in Auckland last time, we had an amazing photowalk. There were so many people! A lot of us had our tripods as we moved around the city streets creating quite a spectacle. Afterward, we went to a nice little venue and I gave a talk on photography that I hope did not bore people!

During the walk, we stopped along the harbor in a few spots. There was a rotating metallic sculpture that grabbed everyone’s eye, so we popped over for a quick shot.
