Daily Photo – Walking through Carneval

I can't imagine what it is like to get so fixed up and then walk around and pose for 10 hours a day. Maybe that's what it's like to be a woman all the time?!?! hehe I don't know… But it was great from my point of view, being on the other side of the camera! πŸ™‚

Accademia Bridge

New Tip Video

In case you missed it, the pre-order for the new Aurora HDR 2017 is available for order now. Here’s a hot tip video on Denoise!

Daily Photo – Accademia Bridge

I like this photo, but I don't think it's the best one over made from this standpoint by a longshot. This is a very famous scene from Venice and most people that go there get this shot. I'm not so much of a “shot collector” but it is too pretty to resist. And even though I've crossed this bridge probably 50+ times, I'm never had “perfect” conditions (which I would consider a stunning sunrise with amazing clouds). That's okay… but I'm still pretty happy with this photo.

If you click through the Venice category, you may see a few other interpretations of this scene I've taken as well.

Smooth Duck on the water

Venice from Above

You’ll see some of Burano in this video below! I never made it to Burano until my 4th trip here, but now I recommend it to everyone to see right away!

Daily Photo – Sooth Duck on the water

I forgot where I first heard this funny line… it refers to ducks look really smooth on the water, but underneath their little duck feet are going crazy. One night our team came back from Burano to Venice on these awesome boats. I couldn't believe how smooth the water actually was… reminded me of that saying.

Crossing the wooden bridge in Venice

The New Travel / Map Area

We’re still working to refine everything with the new map function on the site β€” please let me know if you have any feedback! πŸ™‚

Daily Photo – Crossing the wooden bridge in Venice

There are three huge bridges that cross the grand canal in Venice, and this is one of the most famous views. I'm always impressed at these feats of engineering… I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during the original construction in the olden days. It occurs to me I don't even really have any idea how bridges are even built! I kind of have an idea, but I don't think I could actually build one, or, at least, not one I was willing to walk on myself.

Bel doing yoga in Venice

Aerial Highlights from USA Tour

Here’s a really cool video! These are all the aerial highlights from our Tour Across the USA last year, set to the music of Shpongle (a head-trippy band I discovered at Burning Man one year!). Enjoy! πŸ™‚

Daily Photo – Bel doing yoga in Venice

There's one big difference between Bel and me, even though we both like yoga. One of us will do it nearly nude out in the cold rain and one of us won't.

Purple Feathers

The New Hasselblad Mirrorless System

The new X1D looks ridiculously awesome! The only trouble is I can’t get my hands on one as they are in very short supply. The other bad thing is that there are only two lenses… both prime. The 45mm and the 90mm. I really need something a bit wider, so I hope they announce something cool at PhotoKina!

Daily Photo – Purple Feathers

This one was taken with the Hasselblad 100mm prime lens. It's the perfect lens for this kind of photo. That bokeh is so smooth, eh? Yeah, I had a great time with this lens, out there, hunting subject after subject. When you have a dedicated lens like that on there, it really limits your shooting options, which, counterintuitively, is a freeing! I was able to lurk around and find the most interesting subjects for a fun few hours of portrait work.

Night Bridge in Venice

Fitbit Fun

This is the only city where I got in my 10,000 steps for three weeks in a row. It also helped me to walk off all that Italian food! πŸ™‚

Daily Photo – Night Bridge in Venice

This is the underside of the controversial Calatrava bridge in Venice. It's beautiful to photograph even though it's perilous to walk on it! The locals say that people are always slipping and falling over the railing. I don't really see how you could fall over the railing, as it seemed pretty high to me. I certainly see how you can slip in the rain on the glass… but you'd have to “leap” a bit upwards to get over the rail, which seems unlikely in a slipping situation! Well, what do I know?

Evening in Venice

The new Hasselblad Mirrorless Medium Format

I’m patiently waiting for my friends at Hasselblad to send me one for a play! At the same time, I’m interested in trying out the Phase One. It’s gonna be an interesting year of toys! In the meantime, though, I’m perfectly happy with my Sony! πŸ™‚

Daily Photo – Evening in Venice

I feel like I've used that title before, but that's okay. It just sounds kind of romantic, eh? This is when I was shooting with the medium format Hasselblad. Do you see how it has this kind of nice “effect” β€” I still can't quite put words around it, but maybe you know what I mean.

Moody Canals at Night

Thanks Again Denver

That was a great workshop we had in Denver – thanks again everyone. We’re working on getting all the Screen Recordings ready for you now! πŸ™‚

Daily Photo – Moody Canals at Night

Here's one of those bridges that I would cross almost every night when walking back and forth from St. Mark's Square to Accademia. Many bridges, like this one, have restaurants nearby so there's often a nice little cluster of activity around each one.

Textures Tutorial 2.0

This reminds me to plug the rather awesome Textures Tutorial here in the store! Below is a little video all about it!

Daily Photo – Textures of Venice

This is a classic scene from Venice, and I decided to make it more classical by adding about seven textures to the final result. This is a spot you have to go to in the morning to get that sun, since I'm facing the east here. I wish it was a sunset location, since I hate waking up early. I love sleeping in, like a cat.
