Dinner in Carmel

Stuck On Earth for Mac still in testing!

We’re still working hard on this. It will be a free app when it is released, and I want to make this one absolutely perfect! The Android and iPad versions are already out there, so be sure to go grab those if you have not already!

You can see a few sneak peaks at the new Mac version on the Stuck On Earth page.

Daily Photo – Dinner in Carmel

I found this place thanks to my friend Vic Gundotra. I was searching for local places to eat on my phone, and I saw that he recommended it. If it’s good enough for him, then it’s good enough for me!

Actually, I think I kind of like this new way of searching. I like that my friend’s recommendations are pushed to the top of the algorithm. It’s a much more interesting way to search… I’m trying to think of examples when it would not work, and I really can’t. Well, one example is I do have this one friend that has HORRIBLE taste in movies. I am kind of worried that if I search for a movie to watch one night that his ridiculous suggestions might come out on top!

Hiking in Carmel

Most Expensive Places in California for Living?

Is there a list of these somewhere?  I know Carmel is expensive… so is Atherton… and I can think of a handful of other places, but I wonder if there was an official list somewhere… that would be interesting!

Daily Photo – Hiking in Carmel

Just south of Carmel-by-the-Sea is a hiking trail that goes along the coast.  I went down at sunrise one morning to see what I could find.  The entrance to the trail was blocked by a gate, and there was no ranger in the little box-place where rangers stand.  I was bamboozled.  There was no way through or around.  I could have walked, but it looked like the road went on quite a ways before the parking lot.

So I waited until some other guy came along to let himself in.  I was parked a ways back, and so I got his attention from afar by grunting and raising my Nikon-on-tripod over my head like a sand raider — he got the message and waved me through.

Monterey Fun!

EG Conference

High Dynamic Range Photo

This is the first print release of the new year. This is the stunning azure blue pool in Hearst Castle.

I know we’ll have a few people attending the EG Conference in Monterey next week, so be sure to come up and say hello! If you’re not coming to the conference but are in the area, maybe you can join us at the PhotoWalk on Sunday (see below)!

Free Monterey Area PhotoWalk

This will be on Sunday evening on April 10th at 6:30 PM. See and contribute to the details at PlanCast! I don’t have a path figured out yet… so please drop your ideas there into the PlanCast!

Carmel Area suggestions for lodging?

After the conference, I’m staying a few extra days and wondered if you had some suggestions? Perhaps a few nights in Carmel and one down in Big Sur. I usually find my own places, but I find that YOU are such a tremendous resource for suggestions, that I should ask your opinion!

New Print Available!

This is the first print I have released in 2011. As you can see on the Prints page, these are all available in unique numbered series on paper, canvas, and metal.

This photo, like the one below, was taken on a trip up the California coast. I stopped in Hearst Castle for an amazing private tour of the facility. While there, I visited the indoor pool area and had to sidle along a wall to get to this spot. I had a feeling it would splay out some nice shapes for me.

Daily Photo – Off the PCH at Sunset

Whenever I go to California lately, I have meetings in both Los Angeles and San Francisco. Rather than fly between the two, I like to take my time and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s such a famous highway, but it’s usually fairly empty. There is always a beautiful sunset… it’s pretty much a guarantee. I popped out of my car and hiked through the brush a bit to grab this one so you can see what it looks like.

Carmel in the Evening

Daily Photo – Carmel in the evening

I took a California road trip up Highway 1 from Los Angeles to San Francisco. On the way is the famous little town of Carmel. It’s right by Pebble Beach, 17-mile drive, and a bunch of other amazing little places. The town is very quaint and cool… a lovely place to walk around and explore with your camera!

This was my last shot of the night. After this, I stopped in a small Italian restaurant to eat some tasties while I edited some photos. This is one of my favorite things to do after a day of shooting… just relaxing… having someone bring me coffee and snacks… headphones on… editing away. Good times!

Charity Stuff Going Nicely

Just recently, I announced that a percentage of all book profits are going to Kiva.  So far, we’ve gotten over $1,900 from Team Stuck In Customs, so that is great!  You can find out more on the charity page or a recent post on the Kiva blog.

Holiday Gift Guide for Dads

Thanks to Cali at Geekbrief.TV on her recent Holiday Gifts episode for the nice things she said about the website here.  She mentioned the “Stuck in Motion” page here on the site.  And YES, I do have a new video coming soon!  I am thinking about debuting it at the Austin Book Party launch on December 9th.

Daily Photo – The Crash of the Surf

While driving down 17-mile drive a few weeks ago, I stopped for a while to go on a little beach hike! While there, I found this little area…. I set up for a while to see what rolled in!
