Palm Trees at Night

Tom hates Palm Trees

While I was in Hawaii with Tom, he wondered why I occasionally liked to include Palm Trees in my photos.  He thought they were obvious and touristy.  I tried to explain to him that they are not!  Most people in the world (99%) like a good palm tree… myself included!

Daily Photo – Palm Trees at Night

One night in Oahu we were doing some photography along a beach.  Off in the distance we saw some palm trees that were lit from the bottom.  It was about a quarter mile from anything else, so that was sort of strange.  But I thought it was so interesting to see them lit from the bottom with small green pools of light underneath that I decided to walk over there and see what was going on.  After I got over there, there were endless compositions of these various trees.  I grabbed about five different angles and then took a midnight-nature break of my own…

Reminds me of the Seychelles,we sailed their from Durban South Africa for 800 Rand in 1974 with return airfare. That did not include hotels for 3 weeks, things in those days were cheap, today its a little different.Could buy 4 big lollies for a penny, you would be lucky to get 1 for 5 cents today, not good as you would say,not good. The beaches and Palms are still their why could not every thing just remain as it was?hehe!

Nice capture! Makes me feel like I’m there….(I wish, I’m in the very rainy Northwest ;-) ).

I hate palm trees!  I live in San Diego, and palm trees are everywhere. As far as I’m concerned they are weeds.  The trunk sticks way up like a telephone pole with a few leaves on top.  They provide little shade and on a windy day the leaves fall down with a heavy crash and seriously injure anyone unlucky enough to get hit by one.   Nice picture of those ugly things, though.

Song of Solomon 7 Admiration by the Bridegroom
1 “How beautiful are your feet in sandals, O prince’s daughter! The curves of your hips are like jewels, The work of the hands of an artist.
2 “Your navel is like a round goblet Which never lacks mixed wine; Your belly is like a heap of wheat Fenced about with lilies.
3 “Your two breasts are like two fawns, Twins of a gazelle.
4 “Your neck is like a tower of ivory, Your eyes like the pools in Heshbon By the gate of Bath-rabbim; Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon, Which faces toward Damascus.
5 “Your head crowns you like Carmel, And the flowing locks of your head are like purple threads; The king is captivated by your tresses.
6 “How beautiful and how delightful you are, My love, with all your charms!
7 “Your stature is like a palm tree, And your breasts are like its clusters.
8 “I said, ‘I will climb the palm tree, I will take hold of its fruit stalks.’ Oh, may your breasts be like clusters of the vine, And the fragrance of your breath like apples,
9 And your mouth like the best wine!”

“tIt goes down smoothly for my beloved,
Flowing gently through the lips of those who fall asleep. http://www.youversion.com/bible/song.7.nasb

I also hate palm trees, after living in Florida for 15 years. They’re messy & they don’t provide any shade or other benefits of real trees. The palm trees in San Francisco don’t bother me because they’re not the messy kind that drop pollen & seeds everywhere and they have more substance than those skinny ones that grow further south.

Great photo.  Coming from an area where we don’t have any palm trees, I’ve always found them quite nice, especially since seeing them usually means being somewhere warm, which is the opposite of how it is here for about 6 months out of the year.
