Sunrise over San Francisco Bay

Your Internet Radio?

Do you use Pandora or Spotify or Last.fm or something else?  I’m a Pandora subscriber — I use it quite a bit to discover new music.  I notice it starts to repeat songs sometimes, so I keep spawning new stations off songs I like… that seems to work.  Anyway, yes, I was wondering what internet-service you like?

Daily Photo - Sunrise over San Francisco Bay

After my very early morning in San Francisco, I started moving my way further up the mountain.  The orientation of the bridges kept changing relative to one another with Oakland in the background.  Once I got up high enough, I affixed the 28-300mm to the body, zoomed in, and got this shot.

I was lucky that the morning mist/fog gave a nice sheen to everything.  I kind of wish I lived in SF.  I think I would force myself to get up here every day for a year… and see the different light every single day.

Oh wow – how beautiful – I set as my desktop – yes, I love it that much!! :)

Super soft tones and hard, strong silhoettes, beautifully composed.  Personally, I’d say it’s your best image for a while.  As for the other thing; I listen to Radio 4 (BBC).  Are there any other radio stations?

    Well done. A good shot

I like the low mist and light.

Spotify for the listening and playlists, Last.fm for the discovery. Scrobbling Spotify into Last.fm really helps.

I’ve been XM (a lot, particularly FineTuning) but use it a lot less since Sirius took over the playlists which are a LOT more limited than XM’s.

More recently I’ve done Pandora but sometimes tuning a playlist it is too easy to get it into a totally wrong direction.  For jazz, shredding guitars (Steve Vai), and acoustic guitar, it has been great.  For classical, and for classic rock and 80s, Pandora has a knack/insistence to playing only the “best” song (translation: the most popular/#1) from a particular group, which makes them little better than the on-air radio.  My classical tastes are far more into 20th century, and Pandora keeps trying to pull me back to the romantic era which I don’t want.

I don’t trust Spotify’s payment model – I don’t think Spotify is as dishonest as Grooveshark, but I don’t think it works).

As I now have a little kid in the house (10 months old soon), I’ve gone to Live365 as their children’s radio selections (like MuppetCentralRadio) are ‘safer’ than anything I’ve assembled on Pandora which has limited selections in that category.

    Thanks!

+Joe — where do you listen to XM – on your computer?

Nice shot Trey. It’s not easy to wake up early morning for everyone. You seem you are serious in photography. No wonder you became famous.
    Envy you Trey.

Trey – Just ordered a print and really looking forward to getting it. Stylistically very much like the Yosemite image so we had to have it. That and my husband grew up out there, doesn’t hurt!

Bank the cash and in a few years it’ll buy a few textbooks when the kids go to college!

Spotify is where its at for me nowadays. Complete control over what you listen to. They had issues in the past with artist coverage, but they pretty much have that handled now. If I’m looking for something new, I just go to the related artists section of whatever I’m currently listening to. It’s great! Great photo. My brother lives in the Bay Area. Maybe he will put up with me for a week or so while I shoot around….

I’ve been using Rhapsody for 6+ years.  Love it!

We tried to move to the bay area after college, but the unreasonable cost of SF made us decide to stay in the mid-west…I totally get your love of the city though.

Like some of the others who posted, most of my music listening on my PC is either from my library or from Spotify. I don’t place a lot of value on the discovery aspect as I find that good music always finds me one way or another, so that is one area where Spotify may be limited compared to Pandora, etc. But I prefer the control.

Great shot, Trey.  One can find lots of shots taken from this general area which makes getting a unique comp a challenge.  This one is totally new (to me, at least) and very nice!

I personally use Slacker. It’s a lot like Pandora, only you can play music a few different ways. It’s been a while since I’ve used Pandora on a paid account, but last I checked you could only create a station based on one artist and it would pretty much play whatever it wanted. Slacker, on the other hand, not only can play like that, but you can create stations based on as may artists as you want, stations that only play certain artist/artists or a specific song.

Lovely photo!  I use Pandora.  I have always enjoyed it.

We moved from the bay area to Kentucky and now live in Tennessee.  I would love to move back to CA someday but not sure it will happen with the cost of living out there.

I love Rhapsody too.  I’ve been with them since their alpha phase.  Some of the stuff I like is not always available there, and some of it tends to drop out, but ever since the redesign, I love the ‘app’ look of the site, the fact that I don’t have to run software to play music, and device support.  I wish their library feature was a little more cloud-based and could include tracks I have that aren’t available on Rhapsody so I could truly integrate my library and stream it to a device as well.  I imagine they’ll get there soon.

What a cool shot. We just moved here to SF – where exactly was this shot taken if you don’t mind me asking?
