Where the Princess Dwells at Night…

Behind-the-Scenes Video

William Beem (frequent community commenter here on the blog… you know him… you love him…) recorded a video of the situation below.  See it here on YouTube.

Missed our Cruise!

We were supposed to get on a cruise for Disney today and we missed it because of flight problems!  Oh no… so now we are scrambling to get down to Grand Cayman to meet the boat…

Daily Photo – Where the Princess Dwells at Night…

But, while in the middle of all this drama, I happened to already be Orlando, so why not make the most of it?

I called for a little PhotoWalk at Disney! It was really really really fun — and getting this shot was tough! I think +William Beem +Gilmar Smith +Keith Barrett or perhaps +Ali Elhajj got a video of me trying to convince half a dozen Disney workers to “sweep water” in front of my camera, which was splayed on the ground. At first, one guy didn’t want to do it because he might get in trouble… then the other acquiesced… and then, before they knew it, they were all being controlled like crystal farmers in Starcraft… we eventually got all the water in the right place!

I had to go over and whip out my sweet Android phone to show them some photos from Google+ — I found the one from Paris with the puddle — I said I needed a puddle about thiiiiis big … and eventually we got it all engineered out. They were all very helpful and nice… I convinced them all to come onto Google+ to see the final result — so I hope they are here! Hi guys – Y muchas gracias!

The video quality isn’t that great, but I just got it posted to YouTube.  It was cool to watch you work to get that scene just right, despite the obstacles.  Thanks for inviting me along for the evening.

Super cool shot – love it and the hard worked for reflection! Way too bad you missed the cruise – bet everyone is tired and cranky! :)

You worked a StarCraft reference into that post. Well done!

Sounds like it was fun, like the old days to be creative you had to use your ingenuity. Good thinking No 1

Wow, amazing photo, Trey!! I’m so glad the water crew co-operated with you so that you got that beautiful reflection!!  Have a wonderful Sunday.  Hard to believe it’s April 1st already.  Don’t let anyone put any April fools pranks on you, lol.  Happy Palm Sunday.  We are playing Fairest Lord Jesus this morning in our chime choir.  Wish me luck.  Only a couple of months to go and I’ll be done with that, whew!!  Thanks again for posting another wowee photo!!!

I feel the pain of missing the cruise.  Same thing happened to me last year.  Luckily Disney is allowing us to reschedule it for this year.  Good save though on a cut short vacation.  It can be a challenge to take shots with all the people. Even with low light the shadows can be picked up.  I kind of like the effect though.  Hope the rest of the vacation was saved though.

I am new to commenting here, but wanted to say I really have admired your work, Trey. I have been visiting for quite a while and have always enjoyed that you share the knowledge of your craft and take us all over the world with your images. I am now a convert to HDR and plan to learn and grow with the technique.

I saw William’s video of setting up your shot and having the non-whistling workers sweep the water into a puddle. His caption commentary is humorous.

Hope you manage to get to Grand Cayman alright.  Beautiful island, one of my favorites in the Caribbean, swimming with sting rays in their natural habitat is an amazing experience, great snorkeling around the island, and Seven Mile Beach is beautiful.

    Beautiful photograph!

Ouch. Wishing you luck catching up with the Fantasy. Just returned today after 5 days on the Dream – the grand kids ( and adult kids loved it).

You do realize that people are automatically drawn to standing puddles of water? Very nice.

  • t_linn

Nice shot—but more impressive is your ability to get Disney workers to do your bidding!
