Temple in the Jungle Highlands

Video – PhotoWalk Fun!

I honestly get a little confused about what videos I have posted here.  I can’t remember!  I’m producing so many videos lately that I lose track.  So, rather than perhaps forgetting entirely, I think I will opt on the side of posting videos twice, especially if they are good.  Also, I know some of you don’t come every day… so this also serves as a nice “repeat” in case you missed it the first time.

We did this hangout the night after the big LA PhotoWalk.  It was a great event, and we share a lot of photos as well…

Daily Photo – Temple in the Jungle Highlands – Byodo-In

I would never have guessed that something as ornate and unique as this would be buried up in the deep jungled highlands of Oahu!

It is a popular destination, and I guess people in Oahu know about it, but I had never heard of such a place.  This is the Byodo-In Temple, and I happened to arrive right when the sun came out.  This is a nice time because the morning fog and storms had left many layers of clouds and mist in the background, which gave everything a very unusual feel…

For the first time in MONTHS, this is the first beautiful picture, well composed and processed. This is the first one in MONTHS which does not seem to be rushed or just a snapshot. Keep doing these instead of marketing madness, Trey.

This was used in Lost as a Korean location; it is the temple where Jin and Sun were married. So I knew it was there somewhere, but that’s the only reason.  Very cool image — I especially like how you let the shadows go dark.

Hey Trey when were you in Hawaii?  We were just there and I photographed the temple too but haven’t processed any of my images yet.  We did the 7 day cruise around the islands and a few days on Oahu.  At one point my husband thought he saw guys from Google and I could swear I saw you.  We were there from the 17th to 22nd on Oahu and 8-17th around the others.  Could it have been you?

we were just on the islands too and saw quite a few film locations including the gate in Jurasic Park when the guy (Neuman) trying to steal the embryos gets stuck on the way to the dock.  We took a 4×4 tour into the rain forest and hiked in to see that area.  Raiders of the Lost ark scene when Harrison Ford is running and yells to start the plane was there too.

    Gorgeous pic!
Btw, those ponds surrounding the main temple like a mote are home to countless Koi…locals love to watch unsuspecting tourists sprinkle fish food (they sell it at the temple gift shop) onto the smooth green surface of the water, only to have the entire pond erupt end-to-end with huge, writhing Koi engaging in an unbridled feeding frenzy. It’s an eerie, almost nightmarish spectacle you have to experience to appreciate…
