Country Home in French Meadows

Drobos No More

I updated my Drobo review because I no longer really use them. There is nothing wrong with Drobos, I just fell in love with the speed of my new Thunderbolt Pegasus Promise drives. I bought two of those 12 TB drives, and they are so wonderfully fast — it is just like they are in my main computer.

Daily Photo - Country Home in French Meadow

This beautiful little country home sits in the meadows and gardens of Versailles. I’ve taken a few photos around this estate, and I really like this arch with the ivy.  It made me want to have an arch with ivy at my own house!

This was taken with the trusty old 14-24mm lens from Nikon. I tend to use this lens about 30% of the time I think. Most of the time nowadays, I use the 28-300mm with a few percentage points in there for the 50mm and 85mm prime.

Now that I decided to buy a Drobo, you shuffle my ideas again!
    I’ll check Thunderbolt Pegasus Promise…

Nice country home, the arch and the gate give it that sinister look. Reminds me of the the ginger bread house.

Very nice colors on this one. Did you use Magic Bullet here? Looks like something edited with that plugin. Also very nice framing of the house.

I had HUGE problems with my Drobo Pro….I lost over 2TB of photos because of that stupid thing…It is a total mystery what happened, but the Drobo re-built the drives on it’s own wiping all of my data clean…I took it to a professional data recovery service, and they were not able to recover a single file…..if you ask me, I would advise to NEVER buy a Drobo! I am also using the Thunderbolt Pegasus drive, and it is awesome!

Don’t forget to backup with dvds or another drive. really you should have even a set of copies in another location too.

nice framing and editing in this image

Your title is a bit deceptive Trey.
Now people are going to think that it’s a real country home in the real countryside.
This place, while beautiful, is about as real as Disneyland is. Actually, it kinda was the Disneyland of the 18th Century.

Beautiful photo, Trey!!!!  Have a great day.  When are you moving to New Zealand?

I was checking out the Drobo drives recently, but kinda thought the same:  The Drobo product line doesn’t support Thunderbolt yet, so the Promise drive looks pretty good.  I just have a hard time spending that kind of money.  If photography was my living and I had the money, it’s a no brainer.

I love that house by the way.  Thanks for sharing.

The Pegsus drive appears to be mac-only. Nooooooooo!

I have been looking for something beyond Drobo…it seems like it’s always on the edge of failure.

Well, gee….my iMac is 2 years old and doesn’t support Thunderbolt, but that’s okay. Today … tomorrow is another thing.

I have 10  1TB SATA  Western Digital Caviar Black drives that I swap out of my little 2 bay E-Z Dock. Not the greatest but at least I have back ups.

Beautiful – this is like an illustration from a fantasy novel……you’ll know the type I mean – great stuff!

Can I give some feedback? I somtimes think that the daily photo  becomes a secondary item when there is some other feature such as today where the drobo is mentioned. Is keeping the daily photo and the tech stuff/hangout updates seperate something that you have looked at because I think it’s a shame that only 7 out of the 13 comments before mine mentioned this amazing photo and one of those 7 only mentioned it in a short sentence after a large paragraph about the drobo.

I would personally like to see the daily photo kept seperate……

    Outstanding frame and processing, Trey!!

Love how you framed the photo and then the edits!  Similar to you, most of my time is spent with my 28-300mm.  But after seeing this, I need to pull out my 14-24 again!

Beautiful photo.  I’ve been looking through your site the last couple days and I love your examples of HDR photos that look vivid and realistic.  I like the idea of HDR in the past, but was turned off by the unrealistic looking photos that I was seeing.  I finally tried my first couple HDR images the other night.  Keep up the good work!

drobo has unique technology, it allows you to insert any size hard drive so you can mix and match or grow bigger. with pegasus the drives have to be same size and brand, preferably exact same model too.
i’m hoping drobo comes out with a thunderbolt version soon, cuz pegasus will eat em alive, how can ya ignore 10gb/s speed. for editing raw pictures, its a must have imo.

Nice framing…I need to work on some of my photos of the Hamlet…it was one of my favorite places in France.  Such a crazy past.
