Daily Photo – The Impossible Bridge

I took this photo out the window of the train I was on – the same train you can see in the photo!  This is the Glacier Express, a crazy-awesome train that goes through the Alps and connects Zermatt and St. Moritz.  It was recommended by many nice people here on the blog, and here I am re-recommending it! :)

Awesome picture. Nice looking train, with the “panoramic” windows.

I think there’s something really romantic and an old fashioned feel about travelling by train, even if it’s a modern one! I love them….

Wow, that looks amazing.  I hope to get back to Switzerland someday, I would like to visit Zermatt, do the Glacier Express, and see more of the other amazing sites in the country.  We had limited time in the country so we stuck with just the Bernese Oberland region which was absolutely amazing.  Train travel in Switzerland is wonderful, their train system is so good and there’s so many amazing views.

Nicely captured! Something very nostalgic about traveling by train.

If you ever to go St. Moritz again, consider taking the bus down (or renting a car and drive) to the Val Bregaglia valley. In addition to the mountains there, the road descends through a series of switchbacks that gives you a view of the entire valley below, and if you look up you’ll see a dam about 1000 ft above you. There are plenty of views once you get down to the valley—lots of churches and chestnut barns high and low. My friend operates a bed & breakfast (Ca d’Dürig) in her house which was built in 1593, right near Alberto Giacometti’s workshop is. Continuing on past Stampa, switch busses at Promontogno for the bus to Soglio, a town that’s situated on the side of the mountain. There are great views from there (See attached image)
