Daily Photo – The Minecraft Waterfall

Speaking of Minecraft, our server is up and running again.  Drop a note below if you want to join.  I had to kick a kid and ban him from the server because he was destroying stuff and acting uncool.  The rules are simple… don’t destroy stuff, don’t steal, and don’t defile the farm animals.

This waterfall reminds me of one of those long never-ending waterfall/rivers from Minecraft.  Except, it’s kind of 100x more awesome because it is real.  There are hundreds of these all over Iceland.  The water just keeps coming and coming… I’m often curious as to where it all coming from because the hills beyond seem so gentle.

Wow….these little natural waterfalls in Iceland are beautiful – the whole country from your photos looks so natural – like the perfect setting for one of our American movies – I don’t think I remember seeing any movies in Iceland – super one Trey!

That looks amazing – the way the flow of the water blends together, it makes it seem like there is more volume flowing than there really is. Gives it a very airy look.

On a more Minecrafty note, what’s the server like? Massive individual construction / projects, or more communal efforts? Any sort of theme? My current server is pretty dead (and two major versions behind), but I’m in the middle of a project that I just can’t stop working on…

Hey, I’m always looking for a new and fun Minecraft server where I can help out and build in peace without my work being destroyed (which seems like an uphill battle). It sounds like you monitor your server pretty well. My username is Andrewfortywinks . Also, lovely photo!

The little stream reminds me of one I camped beside in a little meadow in the Jefferson wilderness in Oregon. But surrounding the  meadow were  giant fir trees. That was many years ago. I have a few slides (Kodachrome remember that)  from then.  Maybe I could dig them out and try to HDR one of them.  This stream is perfectly placed and pictured.

I can never fully capture the flow of water in images quite like this – maybe a little project for me…..if i ever get the chance again.

On the “Is the DSLR dead?” subject, I had a think about it and can reveal that the DSLR is not dying – once no one at all anywhere on planet Earth uses on of these time-tested instruments, then t can be considered dead. As long as one person somewhere is still using their’s, then they still live on. DSLR’s have been around for so long and are so ingrained in tried and tested photography processes there will always be a market and a use for them in the same way that collectors still buy and drive classic cars. The DSLR may not have a future in the mainstream because the technology companies think they can market something “better” to us but it will always be there with a huge collector following.

Oh, I also (finally after many months of waiting) got round to watching ‘Game of Thrones’. I’m only a couple of episodes in and have been suitably impressed!

I love the flowing water and the change in color of the grass. I’m like Andy Bird, I can never get flowing water right. It is something I need to work on. BTW, I’ve never heard of this game. If I sign up, will I get spammed; or should I use a rarely used email address designed for sites I know nothing about?

  • William Beem

I honestly don’t know what Minecraft is, but I’m fascinated by the notion that a developer would include a way to defile farm animals. Things have changed since my days of programming.

  • Todd Nguyen

I’d like to play on your server, Trey. My username is toddthetoad95

Have you hiked up the trail from Skógafoss, Trey?
Skógafoss is just the last and tallest of a large number of remarkable waterfalls on that path. We hiked through the glaciers from Thórsmörk, and on the descent down to Skógar we passed more than 20 fossar. Unfortunately my camera had just died. Here’s the “World of Waterfalls” page if you or any readers are interested:

Lovely photo.  I can see the Minecraft comparison. It even has that new gentle shading between biomes that came with the newest patch.  I would love to join your server if you still have space.  My username is UnderG33k.

Great photo, the waterfalls remind me of Switzerland, though the hills there aren’t as gentle and there’s no question where all of the water is coming from.

The video of the hangout is the best thing I’ve seen on the web in a long time. I wrote about it albeit a short post. That comment near the end about Strobist Boot Camp was spot on. I keep telling people to go there and then ask me questions but most can’t be bothered. But then they’re come back to me with the same old “what kind of lighting kit should I buy?” Get’s tiring. Screw ‘em.

No I don’t need access to your server ;-) What the heck is Minecraft??
