The Lincoln Memorial

More From DC and the A&S Museum

I don’t post a lot of photos from DC, but this reminded me of some favorite shots from the Air and Space Museum. You can see the Washington DC category shots here.

Daily Photo – The Lincoln Memorial

I got this photo in a hurry. I bet I raised a few security alarms too because of my unusual behavior.

I didn’t have much time, so I had my wife drive nearby and park illegally on the curb for a few minutes. She wasn’t a fan of that, but let’s not talk about this right now. So, I jumped out of the car, hauled my tripod out of the trunk, and dashed across the green hill towards the memorial. I grabbed photos in a rushed way and dashed back to the car and sped away.

Interesting story about the photo, that does sound like something that might raise some eyebrows if anyone noticed.

I started my new blog today, inspired by Stuck In Customs.  Hoping to post one photo every day throughout 2012 and miss as few days as possible.

As one does, haha… I always say its easier to seek forgiveness than seek permission ;-)
Cool story & worthwhile result… I can picture you doing this, Trey!

Beautiful night shot – love the lighting – amazing job for a ‘fast’ photo! Hmmm…..is this something new on your comments page??

Trey, I have made the same experience some years ago at the same place. For my bad luck an officer came … At the end she was a friendly one and the photos I took I like very much.

This is another city i’d love to visit one day – this angle reminds me of some shots I took in Glasgow last year of our Gallery of Modern Art Building – Here they are for anyone who wants to have a look…..

Hmmm, those hills don’t look so green to me… ;)

    Nice perspective!

Wow, very beautiful photo, Trey!!!!!  This will be on my desktop soon, also.  I still am not found of this comment program, but I will go with the flow, lol.  Take care :-)

P.S.  It doesn’t change my smiley face either :-(

  • Trey Ratcliff

Yes – testing a new comments system!   @CurtisSimmons:twitter  put it into place!

  • Trey Ratcliff

Yes – it won’t do a face for you… unless you sign in with Google, Twitter, Facebook — or perhaps there is a another way to do it…. @CurtisSimmons:disqus – perhaps you know?

  • Trey Ratcliff

Cool stuff – you have the honor of being the first to have thumbnails in the new comment system!

I went to the disqus site to change my face, but it didn’t work. I tried connected with facebook, using my old Gravitator photo, and uploading one from My Picture file. Not of them worked either :-(

P.S. Make that Avatar, not face, lol

Trey – Nice shot as always (and a bit of luck dodging the metro police apparently).  But all these shots of the DC area and not a single cherry blossom??? If its something you can fit in to your schedule for this year I would highly suggest a trip to DC in late March when the Cherry Blossoms show up.  This year in particular is going to be special since it marks the 100th anniversary of the first Cherry Blossoms being planted, and I expect the tourists to flood to the Tidal Basin area more than usual.

    Love it.

Sodium vapor lights destroy any picture that contains them.  There is no good way to color correct for them.  When I shoot commercial architecture I always ask to have them turned off before I start a job.  To ensure that the client does this I show them a picture of a building the outside of which is totally illuminated by these wretched things.  And before anyone jumps on me, yes, I know why they use sodium vapor.

Ah, D.C.  I’m going back there next month for a week or so to get some shots.  Can’t say I’ve had spectacular luck with the Lincoln Memorial before.  I quickly learned that tripods aren’t allowed inside.  On my last trip there for business, my plans were dashed when I discovered the place was rented out for a private party when I arrived.  I ended up going the opposite route for this shot.

I definitely loved the Udvar-Hazy NASM, but need to plan a bit more.  Those folks aren’t fans of tripods, either.

That’s a wild shot, thought i’d try the image attachment option.. attempting some hdr here :)

Good shot Trey.  DC has a ton of great things to shoot.  I was there only one day where I could walk around and take photos.  This was taken at the end of the day, low light and hand held 3-shot HDR.  Turned out ok for not having a tripod handy and long shutter times :)
