Lighthouse in Iceland

Rental Car Woes

It’s so expensive to rent a car in one city and drop off in another… In fact, it’s so darn high that I would not be surprised if there was some sort of a cabal going on… I end up doing this quite a bit because I like to fly to one place, explore, drive a long way, explore, and then fly out of a different airport. Of course, that’s not an issue in Iceland (today’s) photo. There’s only one international airport there!

Daily Photo – Lighthouse in Iceland

The northwest fjords in Iceland have quickly become one of my favorite areas of the country.

People ask me all the time, “I’m going to XXXX country, where should I go?” That is one of the reasons I created the new Stuck On Earth — for just that purpose. Now, when you zoom into Iceland, you’ll see a big collection of images up in this area. Whenever you see clusters of pins in one area versus another, you’ll get the general idea that one area has more photo hotspots than another.

New Video – First Live On Air Hangout

So, *this was just a test…not a real show*… but there was a little bit of photography talk mixed in there for sure. We had people from Australia, Sweden, Canada, Greece, New Zealand and the US in there!

Here’s a few highlights… We happen to have Helen Sotiriadis in there who was one of the finalists for the TWIT Photo contest. I talk about experiences of being a judge… and how it can suck more than you think.

Then I do a one-man intervention on the avatar of Billy Wilson.

We talk a bit with the three peeps from Google that joined: Colleen Kelly, Henry, Erica Joy and Ricardo Lagos.

And then all other kinds of conversations with Doug Kaye, Giuseppe Basile, Maximilian Majewski, Lisa Ng, Jim Davis and the great Karen Hutton where you’ll see a few behind-the-scenes things… and then a surprise appearance by Tom Anderson

Forget about Billy’s avatar. What’s up with his live actual self? He sits almost motionless, and non-blinking. Sometimes I stare at his avatar – trying to figure out if it’s actually a live broadcast of Billy or a still picture.
I also have spent some time worrying that Billy will kill large amounts of people someday.
All of this based on his avatar.

Wonderful lighthouse – love the stone colors with the blues and green – super! I think Billy’s avatar is fine – he’s sensitive and artistic! Hi Gonzo!!

Nice lighthouse. How come the lighthouse has such warm colors when all the world around it is to cold looking? I love that it is so warm and inviting.

I think it’s great that it sticks out so much from it’s surroundings. I’m just thinking how welcoming it would look if you worked there and were walking through some kind of Icelandic blizzard to get there – you would be sooo glad to get inside!

It’s good to get the chance to get on here and share my thoughts again – i’ve barely had the chance lately with all the house-moving and job-hunting tasks but fortunately theres a bit of light at the end of the tunnel – I picked up my camera yesterday and had to take a wee minute to remind myself what it was haha!

Oh i was watching a documentary on Discovery Science channel the other day about the final space shuttle launch and i’m pretty sure I saw you in one of the scenes in amongst a bunch of other photographers…..

I feel your frustration Trey. I feel so many of these companies have you around their finger when you decide to travel this way. Public transportation is no cheap alternative either… This is a fantastic shot. Well done.

I have a random question, have you ever constructed a coffee table photobook of your work?? I just received a bunch of my photobooks back from Mixbook.com and was not satisfied with the quality. I did a review on my site at http://catchthejiffy.com if you or anyone else cares to look.

Great photo of the lighthouse, Trey. I’ve never seen one quite like that. Have a super Monday!! :-)

Trey, again kudos on the Stuck on Earth app. Since using in before my recent trip to Shanghai it’s become my premo scouting tool not to mention one of my favorite coffee shop apps. Nothing like getting to browse all the beautiful places across town and across the world while enjoying a good cappachino.
    Thanks,
    John

When I’m in one city for a few days, then driving to another where I’ll drop the car, I do two rentals, one locally and one for the one-way.

That’s always a lot less than a single rental one-way. Also, sometimes a city or region will have several airports that are considered as a single unit rather than one-way rentals. JFK and Newark; Dulles and Baltimore; Oakland and San Jose, etc. I’ve taken advantage of that a few times, too.

On another topic, I just watched Chris Orwig’s TED talk. You’d like it and will want to add it to your best TED page.

    Great shot!
Too bad these hangouts are almost always in the middle of the night for me :( Would love to hang “in” on one of them…
