The Cathedral Under the Cathedral

New: Google Currents

Google Currents is a fun way to read the latest, be stimulated, and see new things. You can get it now on your iPad or Android device — it’s free! I am on there in two places — I’m in the “Curators” and in the “Lifestyle” category. It’s kind of an alternative to Flipboard… and quite a good one! If you get it, tell me what you think.

Daily Photo – The Cathedral Under the Cathedral

What an awesome place this is… This is the cathedral that is on the bottom level of Sainte-Chapelle. I did my best to capture the feeling of this place, and I hope I did an adequate job.

This is a handheld HDR taken with 5 exposures. It was really quite difficult to hold the camera still. I felt a bit like a sniper in Call of Duty.

Limited Quantity! 2012 Calendar Now on Sale!

When they’re gone, they’re gone.

We’ve decided to do something new this year and put together a monthly calendar! This is an 11 x 8 1/2″ saddle-stitched calendar featuring 12 of my favorite images from the U.S. and around the world. We’re very excited to offer this … it’s very different for us to offer something in a physical medium. I mean, we do sell prints of the photos (just click through any photo on the blog to go to the SmugMug gallery and click “Buy” ) but we’re mostly into the digital goods. Nothing beats a nice wall calendar though, yes?

It’s a great gift for you, for your family, and for your friends.  Oh heck, get a few! :)

If you want to see more, see the 2012 Calendar page!

Am I really the second to leave a comment?

Beautiful colors! So much detail. Can you imagine the painters having to paint all those fleur-de-lis on the ceiling?

I can’t believe I’m only the third. I love this photo. It’s now my desktop background. Makes a good one for Christmas. Have a wonderful Friday!! :-)

“Sniper in Call of Duty”! That is exactly the way I feel when taking handheld shots. I actually push the shutter as I breath out slowly, similar to a target shooter. Great shot btw.

    Thanks!

Keith – hehe then you know what I mean :)

This place is really hard to get handheld shots with because the light is so low. But if you can pull it off like Trey did here then it’s totally worth it. This is a beautiful cathedral to take pictures at.

I’m studying abroad in London 2nd semester and I can’t wait to take some shots out there! Your calender will remind me to take plenty of shots! Thanks for inspiring me man. I did my final project in HDR at the University of Iowa!

Great photo. Wish I had spent more time taking photos on the lower level, it was busy when we were there and we had a lot to see that day so we didn’t spend much time down there.

Beautiful capture, Trey. I saw the title and immediately knew what you were shooting. Sainte-Chapelle, with its bold colors and patterns is in many ways more beautiful than Notre Dame—at least on the inside. The outside is a different story, wedged in a parking lot near some government buildings if I remember correctly.

Nice! I am anxious to take some photos inside these kind of cathedrals and churches myself.

Enjoyed the hangout mate, and love this photo! Cheers.

This is breathe taking! Love your pics of architecture!!

  • Jeff Peterson

I second that Tim, Notre Dame is rather unimpressive on the inside compared to many of the other churches throughout Europe. Because it was so well known I was expecting it to be much more impressive.
