The Long Road to New Zealand

The Taxi Video

This was one of the more popular videos of the year… I wanted to reshare it in case you missed it! :)

Daily Photo – The Long Road to New Zealand

This is one of countless beautiful roads that crisscross New Zealand.  I’m afraid I’ve forgotten exactly where I was when I took this photo!   I know that is very lame, but I bet people around here can help me pinpoint the area.

As far as the camera settings, this is the kind of shot you can get with something called “compression,” a method where you use a zoom lens and zoom in quite far.  It takes images in the distance and makes them larger than life.

Futuro House

Trey’s Variety Hour #15 – Getting Great Photos with Newbie Equipment

Wondering if you can get great shots with newbie equipment? Guests include with Lisa Bettany, Thomas Hawk, Gordon Laing, Matt Steiner, Lisa Bettany, Mel Peifer, Dave Veffer, Thor Carpenter, Keith Barrett, Matt Kloskowski!

Daily Photo – Futuro House

Remember those old timey visions of the future? They usually involved people in all-white suits sashaying around hyper-realized modernist structures that were just on the edge of imagination. Most of them never came to pass, but this reminded me of one of those scenes.

I found this one via Stuck On Earth while recently in LA. It’s very close to the water processing building, which sounds incredibly boring, but it a gold mine for photos!

Patagonia Alive

Behind the Scenes of Stuck On Earth

Our iPad app “Stuck On Earth” (iTunes Link) is still doing great, and a big reason behind it is Karen Hutton.  She did amazing voice work for the app, so here is a bit behind the scenes for you.

Daily Photo – Patagonia Alive

While walking across this open field in the Andes, I stopped countless times to open up my tripod.  I’d only walk a short distance before looking around again and seeing everything anew.

I’d like to go back here on another epic hike.  Perhaps I’ll go in the deep of winter next time.  This place would be even more amazing under a fresh snow.

Century City

Live Hangout Tonight!

I’ll be interviewed tonight — I’ll talk about some new things perhaps.

Time: 8 PM PT. Your World Time: http://goo.gl/PSE55
Location: www.VidCastNetwork.com - thanks +Keith Barrett !

I’ll be on with +Thomas Hawk +Lotus Carroll and some others (not sure yet!). I guess they are interviewing me or something. See you there!

 Q&A Hangout

This is a great Q&A hangout from a recent recording.

Hollywood Story

This reminds me of a popular post from last year…  it was a series of posts called My Hollywood Adventure.

Daily Photo – Century City

When I stayed with Tom earlier last week, we went up the hill from his home to take a few photos of the sunset.  One area looks towards downtown, and the other looks towards Century City, Hollywood, and the Pacific ocean beyond.

The Epic Harbor of Buenos Aires

Yosemite PhotoWalk Approaches!

I leave pretty soon for this epic trip.  There is nothing formally planned, but if you are in the area, you are welcome to come out and join the crowd! :)  See Thomas Hawk’s thread here to get an update.

Daily Photo - The Epic Harbor of Buenos Aires

I think I should not have been here.

After I was roaming around this area, a few of my Argentine friends told me it was quite dangerous.  There is a popular area nearby that is much safer, but I heard it attracts the criminal element… and they are more likely to pick off the weak wildebeests on the outskirts… this was definitely the outskirts.

The Temple Burn and Trey’s Hangout #18

Trey’s Hangout #18

This was a fun one! People involved were Tom Anderson (formerly MySpace), Bradley Horowitz (Google), Gordon Laing (CameraLabs.com), Tarah Gaa, and Lily L. We talk about our upcoming Yosemite PhotoWalk, equipment, and more.

Painting Video

I am releasing too many videos lately, yes? I won’t burden the front page with this… but if you want to watch me paint a little of this during a hangout and see more details, visit the “Temple Burn Painting” page.

Daily Photo – The Temple Burn

I had a photo of the “before” that I took of the temple at Burning Man.  I used that as a reference and then started to paint it as it was ensnared in flame… At the bottom is a video from a hangout while I was working on it…

Below here are a few details from bits here and there.

Old Jogjakarta

Merry Christmas everyone

I hope you have a great one! My entry is a little short tonight… I’m up late building things!

Daily Photo – Old Jogjakarta

I visited this area of Jogjakarta day after day to get different light and different conditions. This is the old temple of Borobudur, and each of these “bells” is a stupa-cage that protects stone buddhas that sit inside.

I wanted to get a photo of the inside, but it’s extremely difficult… so you’ll just have to take my word for it! :)

Daily Photo – Electric LA at Night

I took this a few nights ago in Los Angeles. I’ve always wanted to get a good shot of the downtown action, and Stuck On Earth helped me get it.

Luckily, I saw a few hints of this kind of a shot from other photographers that had geotagged shots in the area. I went out there with Tom Anderson and we spent a few hours exploring the area. We got countless great shots and this was the first one I processed.

Daily Photo – Ascending to the Temple at Night

There is a temple atop a huge hill in Lijiang that has several “staging areas” for rest along the way. This is one of them.

This is an area where I took a lot of photos of the old town below. That area is kind of behind me here in this photo, although that is hard to tell from this vantage. It is a good resting place to recharge your batteries before finishing the rest of the hike up the stairs to the top. There’s also a little shop here that sells snacks and drinks… To me, a true adventurer never passes up a good snack.

The Sound that of Clattering Wood in the Breeze

Live Hangout Tonight!

Time: Thursday 8 PM PT – Your World Time: http://goo.gl/IFwEf
Topic: We’ll start with how we pack photo stuff, particularly what we’ll be bringing for the Yosemite Google+ PhotoWalk! And then… we’ll let the conversation meander in a hangout-kinda-way…
Where? Watch my Google+ stream for the Live On Air YouTube player.

Camera City

And here is another crazy place from China! :)

Daily Photo – The Sound that of Clattering Wood in the Breeze

Upon entering the oldest part of this ancient town, I passed by these tiny shingles that hung in the air. They made a delightful sound as the wind went through them, and it kind of set the mood for the rest of the exploration.

This woman was holding an umbrella to shield the sun. It did get a little steamy from time to time… I wish I had one too!

Monkey Monkey

Google Currents

Have you installed Google Currents on your Android device or your iPad? It’s pretty cool. If you add me in both places – both as a “Curator” and as in the Lifestyle category, then you can get my stuff ahead of time!

Daily Photo – Monkey Monkey

This might be the dumbest name for any photo ever, but all bets are off with these snow monkeys.

Did you know that Nolan Ryan from the Texas Rangers has a bunch of snow monkeys in South Texas? Oh yes, listen here. Really – listen! :)

Mystery Photo

Daily Photo – Mystery Photo

Okay, this time I’ll give you guys a nearly impossible mystery. Who is this girl?

Here’s a bit of context. So, I stayed at Camp Walter at Burning Man with a nice group of people. One night, we all lit torches and went out with about 50 people as an Angry Mob. We walked up and down the streets and were angry about things. It was ridiculous and fun. This girl joined us, but she was not part of Camp Walter. She rode a bike and waved the torch in the air. I grabbed then when she sped by me.
