Fisherman in Switzerland

Why are my last three photos so wide?

I don’t know…. I just noticed this common crop… I did not do it on purpose, but it is kind of cool I think.

Daily Photo – Fisherman in Switzerland

I got these fishermen outside of the window of a moving train.

And that moving train was thanks to you great readers here of the blog, that recommended that I take a ride on the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt. It was a great suggestion! In fact, it was so good, I think I will have to ask for more advice in the future!

I too am a fan of this wide crop… But only in certain situations. In many cases. I find the elements in the top and bottom 20% or so to be distracting, so I end up cutting off those portions. I feel photography to work better when they eye has more lateral or vertical movement, rather that scanning both axis to find the subject matter – and therefor discover the story. Perhaps thats just my weird view on things though, hehe…

FYI, Trey, the images in your blog’s RSS feed are almost always very wide and don’t display without scrolling in Google Reader unless I really widen my browser window well beyond what I have to do for most sites. …doug

Love the reflections in the water, it’s so still!! Neat little fishing house. Thanks Trey, have a great Saturday. Now I will look at yesterday’s that was posted later than usual. :-)

Great photo, every photo I see of Switzerland makes me want to go back there. Also like the wide cropping, I’ve started doing that more with my photos recently, something about it seems visually appealing and I seem to end up with a fair amount of photos that are lacking interesting elements at either the top or bottom of the photo.
