The Louvre in Heavy Clouds

Sample files in the Clubhouse

I released a set of the component photos for this a while ago in the clubhouse… it was very interesting to see the various interpretations. Another good thing about it was people can see how dark the clouds really were! It was one of those strange situations where the objects were well-lit but the clouds were quite dark.

Daily Photo – The Louvre in Heavy Clouds

People are always around this thing! If you’ve been there, then you know what I mean… getting a clean shot is almost impossible, unless you visit just after sunrise.

In this case, I don’t photoshop out the people, but I minimize them… so the photo isn’t really about the people, it’s about the Louvre. But, with a wide angle lens, you have to get right up on the thing.

I like the people, and I found no ghosts – they are all solid people – even the ones on the escalator. I imagine that took quite a bit of work in Photoshop to stop the escalator. Wonderful perspective and I love the dark clouds

Dude, awesome shot!! I can’t wait to get back there and photograph this properly. Love it.

Cool shot Trey – l like all the clean looking glass, it also reminds me of something from a ‘Star Wars’ movie… perhaps one of the Battleships! ;-)
Oh yeah, good timing at having the French flag flying high (far right)… I have the unique skill of always pressing the shutter release button at the wrong time – D’oh! ;-)

Once again, your textures are incredible! Love learning from the best out there

Wow!! Its amazing how you bring color to a shot that consists of gray. how do you do it? so beautiful! and the clouds!! very nice my friend!!!

You’ve cliped the bottom of the pyramid, the background buildings are falling over and there is a mob on the left. very ordinary shot.

  • Jeff

Yeah Trey, how could you have “cliped” the pyramid?

Seriously, nice shot, other than that it feels a little too devoid of color. But maybe that’s because the Louvre was soaking in the afternoon sun when I was there.

  • Trey Ratcliff

Thanks…. hehe Jeff… Yes, I see you did not use the very ordinary spelling of cliped.

Great shot – love those foreboding clouds!

Hi Trey, Great shot and love the wide angle! I just bought a 11-16 2.8 and are loving the results but i know what you mean about having to get up close! I have been getting some real funny looks from people!! haha. Maybe they think im doin macro!!

  • Greg Sharpe

Trey, amazing photo as always. When I was last at the Louvre I had my new camera only 3 weeks and failed horribly while there, only getting standard “stand-off” shots. There were so many people I was literally getting bumped as I tried to capture a shot. BTW you got great props at PSW this year by RC Concepcion in his HDR session. Again great work.
