The Airship Isabella

During SXSW, I ended up at a party that had a pretty big steampunk contingent, which is of course very cool to me. I thought I had some good steampunk stuff from Burning Man until I saw these guys…

This was at the Big Bang Bordello Party put on by True Ventures and Tunehopper. It was super-crowded, like most decent SXSW parties, and there was a raucous stage show with a bunch of gals in lingerie and stuff. Is it lame that I hung out with all the steampunk guys in the back? Yes, probably.

Many of them were crew from the Airship Isabella, and they had all kinds of inventive steam-powered goodies. What is Steampunk?     These guys are hardcore – I wish I had the time and funding to be able to dress like this. If I did I would definitely get all the chicks! I reckon there’s more of a Western style running through the gear sported by these guys so i’m leaning towards a ‘Firefly’/'Serenity’ influence here rather than a ‘Mad Max’ one. If you need a loan of my brown suede trenchcoat for ‘Burning Man’ let me know hehe!

    LOL, funny story and funny comments from the guys! Lots of red in those there photos, boy ;-) Great shots non the less. Thanks for not sharing the shots the guys wanted and for sharing lots of red and gear from Steampunk. Have a wonderful Saturday. It’s a sad one for us, funeral for a dear friend. See you tomorrow, we might be in the 80′s, whoohoo!!!! :-)

    I had no idea what Steampunk was or that it even existed till I found your sight. These photos are way cool. BTW Jules Verne may be my favorite author. I just love his imagination and foresight. I am working on learning HDR and plan to do a project each day. I am mostly learning by trial and error. My better ones get posted to Fliker. My bad ones go to digital photo heaven. I would appreciate any comments and tips. Here is today’s project.
