Houston at Dusk

I’ve had (the pleasure) to go to Houston a few (too many) times this year.  I always end up staying downtown, which affords me some good opportunities to take photos at dusk.  Usually I am busy (being drained) and can’t actually get out to shoot at sunset, so whenever I have a chance, I do my best to get a good one.

This was shot from the top of the Magnolia Hotel, which is a very cool place to stay, if you ever make it down thataway.

Another fantastic photo Trey! It’s getting really hard to find new ways of complimenting your photo since they are all so great! You have really made me into a huge fan of HDR photography and I can only hope that one of these days my photos will look as good as yours. 🙂

  • The DOF is just amazing, Trey. Thanks for being such an inspiration to HDR freaks everywhere (and maybe turning a few non-freaks around) God – you’ve gotta be so happy with this one. It’s awesome.

I’m not sure whether it is your new camera, or a refinement in your processing, but the detail in your shots seems to be getting better and better with each upload! A realy nice shot, though my only gripe, is the building on the right seems a bit ‘cut off’ if you know what I mean : )

  • Absolutely awesome! I love the detail. Is this the 14-24mm? Great HDR!

  • hi trey,
i was wondering what sort of shutter speed you used to get the blurs of the cars, also, which is better: photomatix, hdr max, or some other software?
    thanks, dan.
great shot by the way 🙂

  • This is wonderful Trey, your cityscapes are my favourites of your shots, the lighting and detail you captures show’s the life and soul of a place like no one else can, keep it up.

  • Amazing image! The lines of buildings and roads are fantastic to look at.

Keep on doing what you do 🙂

Great pic Trey. For this and future pics could you put the exif and lens info used? Always curious about the particulars. 🙂

    Thanks…and love the work!

  • I’ve stayed there before, 4 years ago for the Houston Marathon.

  • Great capture of Houston at sunset, Trey!!!! Love the colors!! Good job. Thanks for sharing.

Trey, really nice shot. If you aren’t careful, you may get folks interested in going to Houston. 😮

  • Great shot! The Lancaster, if I recall, was also a nice hotel.

  • Very very nice! How did you do the distortion correction?

  • I don’t remember where it’s from…something about man-made mountains & canyons – this is a really impressive view!

This is soooo beautiful Trey! Way to go!

  • Nice! Love the orange/yellow on the top of the building in the middle.

  • Thanks yall!

Dan and others – sorry I just don’t have the time to put together detailed explanations of every shot on here – sure you understand. There is a bit of EXIF from one of the 5 shots inside the FLickr properties.

  • Bonjour,
Well done HDR image..Nice details and composition..Bravo!

  • Ed

One of your best shot man.

  • Facebook User

No prob Trey. I’ll assume, based on the EXIF, this shot is done with the 14-24 2.8.

  • Another great shot trey!!!

  • How do you get into the roofs of hotels? do you just… walk up there? or do you ask? or what?

  • MattG.

This is just WOW when you go on the org. size you can read the cop cars number. The details you get with you D3x is amazing!! There is no way my D40 could even come close to that much detail. Nice HDR once again Try:)

  • Tyler,

In this case, there was a pool up there. The angle wasn’t quite right so I took a maintenance latter down to a better spot.

  • Hi Trey,
I looked at a lot of photos of Houston for a blog post we did and just loved this one. I have added a link to your flickr account and this blog in the post. Bidmycleaning Banter: Houston House Cleaning Update. Thanks for making your images available to use via Creative Commons.
