The Twisted Metal of Disney

This is the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. It was designed by Frank Gehry and completed in 2003.

The day was pretty hot, even for LA, so I ducked inside for a bit. There was some kind of event going on, and I was able to slip between the cracks of security to enter the inner sanctum. I would go grab a manager and try to explain the whole situation… like… you know… you really DO want me to take photos of this place… millions of people on the website will see it and want to come here and pay you money… but then again, I usually end up speaking to some low-level functionary that barely has the authority to tie their own shoes while on the clock. So, often, I don’t bother, and just sneak around, which is not easy with a tripod and the tank of a Nikon atop. I did get some shots from the interior of the concert hall as well, which I hope to process in coming months… as always, this is another thread that will get closed in true Lost fashion before the season ends…

haha! It looks like someone grafitti’d Walt Disney Concer… across that right wall. Though I have never seen this place in real life person I have seen several photos of it. Hardly any of that have undertaken the entire building so it is nice to see it from your point of view. Probably one of the coolest things Disney has done (I have no kids). Can’t wait to see the interiors

Love the shiny metal surface HDR’ed. Is the blown out region non-recoverable or was intentional? Would love to see how it could look without Lucis treatment. Great job Trey!!

Trey it is cool the angel and all but I do like the Reflective quality of your HDR shot very much… Do u think u could get this kind of shot of the Getty? Hey why not you do Photography with such style they should love you to do one for them as well. Architecture and all aside it would be a nice compliment for your LA visit… Next time maybe… I also liked the Video u did, have my own thoughts about the items all have mentioned before “on your fade between” but overall enjoyed the visionary work from your outing, to bad u left Yuri out of it Haha! Your choice of music considering your gaming background was truly wonderful and liked that very much…

As always I see u have a new area to play in and to grow into also.
Still my admiration for your work grows better as you grow in your expertise. Keep giving us that joy! Thanks a lot for putting it all together so quickly. I would have taken forever and still not sure if all would be happy. ;) I got Hawaii to do something with and not sure I’d do as well with just my friends to show it off to… ;)

    Yours truly in CA

Jeff – thanks for the nice notes… I should go shoot the Getty. I am sure I would get in trouble… and then when I try to explain that Getty actually represents a small body of my work, I am sure the explanation would go nowhere!

What time of day did you shoot this?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hans-Mast/698198325 Hans Mast

Don’t mean to be a pain, and perhaps I’m being a dunce by missing the obvious, but I’m really curious to know what time of day you shot this. Evening?
