Musician Loading and Unloading at SXSW

SXSW is a big deal down here in Austin! I missed the first few days in Chicago, and when I arrived back I see it was just as crazy as I expected. Our studio is right on 6th street, which has been pretty much a nonstop party for the past week. Of all the various locales where the top bands play, this is one of the better-known ones. It’s called Emo’s, and a closeup of the little sign there (might need to zoom on flickr to original size?) will show a special rule for the elite musician class of Austin who might be surprised to know they get their own sweet set of traffic laws.

  • I can’t wait to get downtown for the music. This is a great shot – my favorite part is the lamp above the Emo’s sign – I think it has to do with the shadow looking like a hovering spaceship…

  • Thanks Cate 🙂 hehe you are right… it kinda does!

  • NExt year, I’ll be there. Definitely on my to do list. And nice evocative shot, too.

    {Emo (pronounced /?i?mo?/) is a style of rock music typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. It originated in the mid-1980s hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C., where it was known as “emotional hardcore” or “emocore”…..}

    Funny. “Emotional hardcore” reminds me of my reaction to HDR vs non-HDR photography.

    Great shot.

  • Great picture!

  • the colors are magic – as the music I suppose

  • another great shot trey. Just wish I was there rather than cold scotland.

  • I like the teaser of colors coming through the crack in the doorway 😉

  • What a fabulous shot! I live in Austin too and am thinking of going down to take photos this evening. Maybe I’ll run into you?

  • hehe thanks all…. and I have seen a few Emo people walkin’ around too… as you might imagine

  • Bet that is an exciting and fun time!!! Love the way you captured the street waiting for the excitement to begin!!

    I actually found your photographs while I was in Austin last week looking for things to do. I came into town for SXSW and it just so happens I’ve been experimenting with HDR photography. If only I would have found this site a couple of days sooner…It would have been a pleasure to have made your acquaintance.

    Just for your information, Emo’s was named after its owner, not by the genre of music that they feature.
