The Castle Crackled with Magic as its Gods Held Lightning, Ready to Smite Down the Non-believers

Daily Photo – The Castle Crackled with Magic as its Gods Held Lightning, Ready to Smite Down the Non-believers

Is there anything cooler than the old architecture throughout Europe? I say there is not.

In this upcoming article that I’m working on for Smashing Magazine, I mention a membrane between fantasy and reality, and, for whatever reason, seeing things like this help me drift back and forth between what is real and what is not real. I know critics typically get caught up in reality; I get caught up in fantasy. I can’t be in places like this without thinking of the Game of Thrones.

  • I can’t wait for the article nice work Again Trey

  • Very nice! The orange lights in the window are a nice touch. I’d be tempted to crop out the vegetation and manhole at the bottom. 🙂

I like the dramatic feeling in this, and I don’t mind the vegetation and manhole – they actually provide a nice contrast to the otherwordly feeling in the upper part of the photo.

I keep wondering who built the castles. What were they thinking then and who was the architect? And why?

Great analogy. I too grew up with e-games and hdr takes me to places where reality and fantasy collide (instead of “fantasy” maybe we should use the term “reality skewed by the mind’s adventurous eye”). I continue to favor hdr; if done well. As yours are. Great work again!

That manhole is an entrance into worlds only dreams can go….

  • Thanks all! I fixed that little typo in the title… I’m the worst…and need an editor!

Wow. I discovered your blog a couple of months ago and I’ve been reading it ever since. I’m an amateur photographer and really interested in HDR. I’ve looked at quite a few shots, but yours are the best. You don’t seem to get carried away with the effect like a lot of people do. You use it enough to make it dramatic, but not too much to make it unrealistic. I just love your work. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Awesome shot. A Song of Fire and Ice is my favorite series, too.

  • …abandon hope all ye who enter here…
