Beautiful San Francisco

Sorry about the Apple Talk Broadcast

We tried to do a live Google+ hangout from the Apple event, but there were problems. It kinda worked, but didn’t really have all the ooomph that I was hoping for. Oh well, at least we tried. And I know what went wrong… I’m still figuring this stuff out, and we’ll get it better next time.

Daily Photo – Beautiful San Francisco

I just got back from a crazy three days in San Francisco. The trip included everything from visits to Google, YouTube, Facebook, breakfast with Scoble, Smugmug, Microsoft at a Calacanis event (where the upcoming app WON Audience Choice!), then finally a PhotoWalk in SF with Thomas Hawk. It was completely exhausting, but very fun. After the Facebook talk, I headed to downtown San Francisco with Tom Anderson to get this photo. It was a great night!

  • Wow.
What an amazing piece of work this is.
Sorry I missed the Apple hang. The wedding was . . . well, a wedding.
I absolutely love this San Fransisco shot.
    Truly beautiful.

  • I’m tremendously jealous. Sounds like a great trip. Love this shot, it’s gorgeous! Especially love the clouds in the shot (and how did you get lucky enough to not get fog!). Glad you got to do a walk with Thomas Hawk, too… He’s a good guy.

  • Beautiful shot. Love SF. Love the perspective. Did you get special access for this location or is it open to the public?

  • Very nice and crisp love the colours

  • Patrick Ahles

    Great shot and lovely colors!

    Hi Trey

this is a great shot and i read Thomas description on how to get to this place, i am looking forward to do that on my next trip to SF. Hope you didnt have any problems at the hotel to get to this point if you dont mind you can share your experience on how you got to this point at the hotel

  • Access at the hotel seems to be hit & miss. When I went there, the doors to get there were locked and they wouldn’t allow me access because I wasn’t a guest. Other people have gone there for this shot without any problems. All I can say is to smile and be nice, since that’s always good advice.

Is this the Mandarin Oriental? Stayed there once and got a similar shot. Great hotel, though with it in the Financial District, it’s a little bit away from the main areas of town.

  • Susan

What a beautiful shot of the city -awesome Trey!

  • Awesome shot of an awesome town. Happy Monday, Trey and community– thanks for what you do.

  • Awesome shot Trey. Amazed how you always seems to find the perfect spot to take your photos from wherever you are in the world. This is really capturing San Francisco – Golden Gate bridge in background with bay area and city – very cool picture.

I watched your Apple Store event Saturday night – sorry could not make it to Barton Creek this time, hopefully next time.

  • Trey, this is such a great shot. Was it taken through window or did you manage to get to the roof?

If you and your many followers would be so kind it would be great if you could ‘like’ my new fan page: Thanks!

  • Steve

You sure know how to find and pick your spots! Beautiful!

  • Thanks! Yes it is a little hard to get up there.

Noah – this is from a balcony – so no window…

  • Kaz

Absolutely beautiful shot!!! I’ve been to this spot on a number of occasions many years ago (when it under construction and afterwards). The weather gods were with you this particular evening. If you ever want another location (very high roof top) on the waterfront, I may be able to arrange it for you.

  • Joel Johnson

The Oriental suite of the Mandarin Oriental?

  • Joel Johnson

What kind of lens did you use for this shot? Impressive.

  • Paula M

Wow – the clarity all the way out into the Bay is amazing. What a beautiful photo!

  • paul kelley

Who does one have to bribe to get out to that balcony at the Mandarin?
