Katie-Ann and the Hot Tub

Daily Photo – More Katie-Ann Action

I have a funny story for you.

So, I was staying in Fort Lauderdale, and I was in an elevator with my camera. This couple got on with me and they excitedly said, โ€œAre you a photographer?!?โ€

I said I was.

Then they said, “Will you take photos of our baby? Our baby is so amazing! We just got married and we're Jews! And this baby is the best thing ever!”

I said, “No, I don't really take photos of babies or people or anything.”

Then they started begging, telling me how amazing their baby was and it got super-awkward really quickly.

Let me back up a second… So, the female half of the couple is Definitely not the girl in this photo. I'll get to that in a moment. They were both very short and dressed in these all-black robe-things. The girl was particularly tiny, but she had a giant head and face like a full-grown woman. They were probably about 20 years old, but something about them totally freaked me out. When this large-plate-faced woman would stare at me, she would never blink. She was kind of like a living doll in the horror-movie style of doll.

Okay, fast forward to the next day. There's a huge ruckus out in the hallway. I go outside, and hotel security is trying to force open the door. A manager is there, and then I realize I hear a baby crying. It's just wailing away inside. Total chaos. They can't get the door open all the way because of that hotel-chain thing…

The manager yells, “Ma'am you must let us inside! This baby is crying and is obviously in distress!” No one comes to the door and things are getting dicey. I go back into my room, which is right across the hall, and look out the balcony. I'm right above the pool, and I look down, and see the mom and dad laying out at the pool, still wearing these giant black smocks. I think, WTF? Did the baby chain itself into the room? Is there someone else in there?

So I go back to the hallway to talk to the manager and security, and everyone is gone. I'm still thinking WTF. I still hear the baby crying.

Fast forward to next day. I leave the room and this strange tiny couple is outside my door, waiting on me.

They say, “Oh the photographer! Will you please take photos of our baby! I'll pay you anything you want! How much do you charge?”

I'm super-creeped out now and say, “Listen, I really don't take photos of people or babies or anything. I do mostly landscape and travel photography.”

They keep insisting, so I just go back into my room to hide.

Fast-forward to later in the day. I leave the room, and I see another young woman come out of their room. She's maybe 19. We walk down the hallway together and get on the elevator.

“Are you with those people in that room?” I ask her.

“Oh no, they found me on the internet,” she says, then happily pushes the lobby button.

“What do you mean, they found you on the internet?” I ask, obviously.

“I was babysitting,” she offered.

“Aha,” I said. “I've heard that baby is absolutely amazing.”

She gave me a quizzical look then ran off the elevator at the bottom.

Fast-forward to the next day. I'm trying to get some photos of Fort Lauderdale that are interesting. I know this girl Katie-Ann and her boyfriend Pascha through a charity event. She's kind of a model, and I asked if she wanted to spend a few hours to get fun photos on the beach and at the pool. They say sure, and come out to meet me at the pool.

I start posing Katie-Ann, tell her to go this way and that… we're having lots of fun and taking photos for quite a while. Then, all of the sudden, that tiny girlwoman with the black smock and the giant head walks over to me very seriously.

She stares me down and says, “I thought you didn't take photos of people!!!”

“Well,” I cowered, “she's just a friend and I'm taking photos for fun.”

“Why won't you take photos of our baby? Our baby is very beautiful.”

And at this point, I'm starting to think they kidnapped this baby and they're on the run or something. I just could not figure it out. Finally, I had enough.

“Listen, lady. I'm sure your baby is amazing. It sounds like you gave birth to Jesus or something even though you don't believe in him. For now, I'm going to take photos of my friend – why don't you go have a pina colada and relax a bit.”

And that was the last I heard from them.

Fun in the Sun in Fort Lauderdale

More Florida Fun

I think next January we’re going to take the family back on another grand vacation to Florida and the Caribbean! We’re already talking about it quite a bit… this time we’ll hit different places, but I know a few on the list: Miami, Grand Cayman Island, and Cancun!

Daily Photo – Fun in the Sun in Fort Lauderdale

Here is my friend Kerry Ann who came down to spend the afternoon with me on a fun photo shoot. She came down with her boyfriend Pascha who was running our big charity event for us. Thanks again for everyone that took part in that. I think we had the fifth-highest charity event on the platform, so that is great. Also glad to report that 100% of the money goes to the HEALING.NET Foundation! Thanks again everyone.

Daily Photo – Sunrise in Fort Lauderdale

Two Ft. Lauderdale shots in a row! This is one of the amazing sunrises there. I don't like setting alarms (the only time I do is when I plan a wake-up call to catch a flight), so I would sleep with the curtains open so the morning light would wake me up. It works 80% of the time. Anyway, it worked this day, and I was able to zoom in tight and get the sun rising up through stormy clouds.

Katie Ann headed to the hot tub

Funny Story

Look, I’m really not the kind of guy that says bad things about other people or teases them, so this is not really a story about that, just noting a WEIRD situation. It’s related to today’s photo. So, across the hall from me was these newlyweds. They saw I had a camera, and they asked if I would take a picture of their beautiful baby. I was like, well, I don’t really do that sort of thing. And then he said, well let me get your email and I’ll keep asking. Every few hours, I got another email, offering me money and everything, telling me how amazing his baby is and how I simply must take pictures of the baby. They would find me in the lobby, restaurant, everywhere, asking me to take photos of their baby and showing me other photos of how amazing this baby was. It looked like a regular wrinkled up baby to me. Anyway, I kept saying no, I don’t really take portraits of people or anything. WELL, fast forward a few days later, and I’m taking photos of my friend Katie Ann at the pool below. Well, wouldn’t you know it, the newlyweds were at the pool. The wife came over to me and said, “I thought you didn’t take photos of people!” I was like….uhhhhhhh….

When I was in Ft. Lauderdale, I called my friend Pascha (who helped me with the cancer charity event) and his model girlfriend Katie Ann. They came over for a few hours for a fun photo shoot. I wanted to get a little “gal in Ft. Lauderdale” feel for my shots. I don't do a lot of this sort of thing, but it's fun to experiment and try other things. We were shooting this at this pool and everyone was watching us like it was some kind of an official shoot or something… If I explained how casual and organic the shoot was, they probably would have been disappointed.

Sunset Storm over the Atlantic Ocean

Rick & Morty Suggestion

I can’t recommend this new show any more. It’s so funny and smart… Yes it’s a cartoon, but you gotta watch it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Daily Photo – Sunset Storm over the Atlantic Ocean

While in Fort Lauderdale, we had some crazy storms roll in across the ocean. It turned out great for photos! I admit I probably stayed on the balcony too long to take photos… I went down to the beach to get a bunch too, but the ones from up here seemed more dramatic.

I wanted to fly my quadcopter here too but there was a mix-up with the baggage! It's too bad because the beaches in Fort Lauderdale are amazing.

Playing on the Beach in Fort Lauderdale

Thanks again Pascha!

So Pasha brought his gal (pictured below) over to the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale for a fun day of photography. Pascha is also the guy running our big charity event for my wife’s cancer situation. You can Download the Android version or the iOS version right now. After you get it, find me there in the app and join in! ๐Ÿ™‚ The winner gets a 30 minute facetime with me to talk about whatever you like! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here's one of my favorite shots from my 2-3 hours shooting with Katie Ann, and there were a lot of good ones to choose from. She was really embarrassed and thought should would look stupid jumping because she hadn't done gymnastics since high school. I asked her if that was last week.

New Highlight Video from Ft. Lauderdale!

The next stop in our crazy family trip around the world was was Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Lots of photo tips as well a model shoot that I typically don’t do. Thanks again to The Ritz-Carlton Resorts for hosting us at these amazing locations!

Morning from our room

Vertirama Tip

This is actually a vertirama made up of 3 vertically stacked photos. Whenever I stitch them together in Lightroom, the sky is always overexposed (and unrecoverable with sliders in LR) – the only way to make it look decent was to process each on in LR individually then open them all up in PS for an auto-align with manual blending. Itโ€™s kind of a chore to do all of that, and I donโ€™t understand why LR canโ€™t do it on its own.

Daily Photo – Morning from our room

Here's the view from our room here at the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale. I'm not a morning person for sure, so I have to sleep with the curtains open so I wake up more naturally. There's nothing worse than getting that wake-up call! Plus, I don't want the whole family to wake up and have screaming kids while I'm trying to get a sunrise photos!

Sunset in Ft. Lauderdale

Happy Birthday!

To my sister Bianca! ๐Ÿ™‚ Love, Trey

Daily Photo – Sunset in Ft. Lauderdale

We only spent one evening here on the bus trip, but it sure was fun! I was desperate for a day off from the USA tour, and this hit the spot. I had a jog on the beach during sunset with some quad lovin', got a massage, then had a fab sushi dinner. I really liked it there and want to go back for sure!

Fort Lauderdale, I think

Bus Highlight Video

We’ve updated the Trey’s Photowalk Across the USA Highlight Page with all kinds of goodies. I wanted to post the highlight video here again in case you missed it… I love this song actually… specially selected for this video! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks again Ollie Dale for the great edit! ๐Ÿ™‚

Daily Photo – Fort Lauderdale, I think

Is this Fort Lauderdale? Honestly, and this is kind of embarrassing, I have no idea. We were on the bus tour across the USA and I'm pretty sure the night before was Miami. I woke up the next day and I was at JB's (our bus driver) home somewhere in the Everglades or something. His whole family was there and I was awoken at like 6 AM to come out and meet everyone and have breakfast. They Were Amazing! I even met a 93-year-old grandpa that was a hardcore fan and Photomatix user! Haha awesome… anyway, I ate breakfast with everyone and was generally confused then ended up back on the bus and passed out again and woke up in THIS place. Once again, we stumbled off the bus and went out to take photos because it was so amazing. Anyway, wherever this place is, I really need to get back and spend some more time!
