I’d say the vast majority of masks during Carnivale in Venice are beautiful. About 10% lean towards the macabre side, like this one. These people never talk and are deathly silent… but I’ve often wondered the personality type that wants to look all scary than all beautiful. Or maybe it’s just how they’re feeling that day. Come to think of it, there is a lot of the same sort of proportions in the costuming at Burning Man.
