When I came through Philly on the bus tour, I wanted to make sure to carve out some time to talk with Jared Polin! I went up to his awesome studio and we had a heck of a good time together. This is a really unique interview, and I think you’ll enjoy it! 🙂

It’s been a long time in the making and the stars finally aligned to allow me to interview Trey Ratcliff right here in the loft. Trey is one of the most well known photographers online and is most commonly associated with HDR photography (high dynamic range).

As man¥ of you know I have been very outspoken about not liking HDR in the past. Most of this stems from seeing really bad HDR. Trey on the other hand does HDR right and tries to share his methods with as many people as possible. No that does not mean I will be doing HDR anytime soon. But you can not deny the success and you have to give major credit where credit is due. Check out the FULL Interview at 33:54

Home to New Zealand

Well, after 58 days on the road and then one of our photo workshops, I’m finally back home… now getting re-organized and everything! 🙂 Here’s a few of my favorite photos from here… omg SO happy to be home 🙂

Over Lake Tekapo Here’s one of my favorite images from that day in the chopper. Shooting from a helicopter is always tough. If you watched that video, you’ll see I switched a lot between different cameras. Even though I am using the Sony NEX-7 a lot, I chose the Nikon here because of the extreme conditions. I was quite worried I would only get a few minutes to shoot, so I wanted to make sure I did not run into any buffering problems… this is why I went with the Nikon.Don’t know what buffering is? That is what happens when you take a whole bunch of photos in a row and the camera has to save them quickly. On lesser cameras, sometimes you can only take a few photos before there is a long pause while it writes the photos. The NEX-7 lets met get in about 10-13 photos before it starts going slow. Peaceful Evening in Wanaka I had a peaceful evening in Wanaka. There is this tree that sits out in the middle of the lake. It’s so unusual. I love the way it reflects back on itself in the smooth water. I was by myself, listening to music on my iPod, and just watching the water as it would calm down then get excited, then calm down again. I swapped out lenses a few times and kept moving around to admire it from different angles. Moonlight Clouds – Queenstown at 7:30 AMThe winter in these southern places make the sunrise rather late! I took this about 7:30 AM in the morning while the moon was still out over the sparkling Queenstown. I set up the tripod on my balcony, and this is our amazing view! Golden Tree Path When I took this photo, I was very happy! In many ways, it’s the kind of place you can easily walk through and not notice because it was on the way to somewhere else. I was trying to walk down to Lake Hayes via a new route form my house, and I saw this on the way. I feel like I’m always alert, but then sometimes I’m looking at a scene like this and I think, “Hey, I should take a photo!” Anyway, I need to get better at this sort of thing… and take more photos on the way to the place rather than the place itself. - Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
