Exploring the Reflections of Dubai

Quick Review of TEDxQueenstown

I had a great time there! Here’s a mega quick review of what happened! The video should be done in a few weeks 🙂

ND Filter?

I’m on the edge of getting a good ND Filter for my lenses so that I can do some long-exposure stuff during the daytime. But one problem is that I use so many different lenses, and they all have different filter-thread sizes. For example, I looked into getting one for my 21mm Leica F/1.4 — but the adapter+filter all together is over $500. It’s not the end of the world on cost, but then there is organizing everything… carrying around different ND filters and stuff. It just seems like a tremendous inconvenience for the very rare shot I would take… I think it is very difficult to fill up your bag with all the “edge-cases” for photography, so I’m just gonna keep it simple

Daily Photo – Exploring the Reflections of Dubai

I absolutely love exploring Dubai at night. I can't get enough of it. The ironic thing is I stopped in Dubai for a few days to rest and recuperate, but what ended up happening was I stayed up almost every night until dawn with Rene! He and I had so much fun walking around here and taking a ton of photos. I haven't even come close to processing all of them, but here is one of my favorite reflection shots!

  • Have you thought about buying a filter-system like the Lee Filter holder? That way you at least don’t have to buy the filter glass multiple times. I have one square ND 1000 + 2-3 adapter rings that go all conveniently into one bag and am pretty happy with the system.

Nice pic, filter as you say are extra things you need in the bag,but if you are traveling around NZ by car and its near by I would just have a separate bag or box handy. I keep 3 pieces 0f strong pressure plastic pipe for extensions to my tripod if i need to walk in the water. Traveling out of the country which you do you need to go as light as.I remember you were never a man of filters but once you use them with Great results it will be hard to stop you.hehe!!

Drool – this one is one of my new favorites from you for sure!!

  • Seth Dochter

Right! Killed it! You know I love me some reflections lol!

  • Seth Dochter

That reflection is killer my man!!

As far as the ND filter, I know you previously said you don’t typically use filters and neither do I. However, I have also been giving thought to acquiring a ND filter. Specifically because I’m planning a Photowalk this summer that will hopefully be a stone balancing class as well. That should be super fun!

I found a lot of people locally here said don’t get the screw on and go with a filter system with the films or plates. I’ll be interested to hear what you finally go with. I have still found myself not interested enough to research it haha.

Trey two options on the ND filer
1: Get the sony smooth reflection app it takes multiple exposures (2-64 frames or more) blends them in camera and give you a RAW thats like a long exposure even at midday.

2: Get a ND filter large enough for your biggest lens then get a set of stepdown rings to enable you to fit it to all your lens’s very cheap works a treat can look strange with a massive filter on a small lens.
Shout if you want more details.

Trey, I was in Venice last weekend and took this shot from the Ponte dell’Accademia bridge in the midday sun, using one of my screw on ND filters. I have a spare 58mm filter, so if it fits any of your lenses, and if you give me your hotel address i’ll send it to you so can try it out – as long you promise to return it to me when you are finished! Thanks.
