Shopping in the Queen Victoria Building

Next Trip to Australia

Where should I go? There are many options… I’ll return many times especially because it is such a short flight… but I just can’t pick where to go next!

Daily Photo – Shopping in the Queen Victoria Building

Whenever anyone (non-photographers) sees me with my tripod in a shopping mall, they assume I must be on some kind of a commercial assignment! I guess there is still a general association of big equipment to commercial photography by those outside of our sport.

See that castle in the middle? Every so often, there is a little automated puppet show that delights the crowd. Everyone crowds around the rails to watch the event.

Oh wow this is awesome! The details are amazing – it reminds me of a cruise ship! πŸ™‚

  • Casper van Zyl

It is awesome,we don’t have anything that lavish in Perth. As susan mentioned,it does resemble a cruise ship!

  • Casper van Zyl

Perth ,we can put you up for a day or 2, spoke to the misses. Not busy at the moment can even pick you up at the airport even, sound good?

  • W.A. is huge Trey and has a massive contrast of things to shoot. Only problem is you’ll need a fair bit of time to go from top to bottom. This time of year the storms up in the Pilbara are awesome, and thats an image I like to see done “Trey style”! Here’s a link for the Western Australian tourism site. Hope this helps.

There’s plenty of beautiful scenery in south east Queensland and north east nsw. Plenty of mountains and hiking – the Gold Coast hinterland in particular has plenty of waterfalls. Also, Byron bay lighthouse is gorgeous at sunrise!

  • This is a one exposure shot, isn’t it? And yes, it does resemble a cruise ship, even though I’ve never been on one. I guess it’s the pattern of the carpets that adds to that!

  • Trey Ratcliff

    Thanks! πŸ™‚

  • Trey Ratcliff

It’s 5 exposures, although I did heavily use one of them

  • I guess so, since there is no ghosting whatsoever! Nice processing.

  • Trey head down the West Coast of Victoria to The Great Ocean Road between Torquay and Warnambool, its a fair hike but well worth the trip, It’s the most wonderful coastline in Australia and leads to The Twelve Apostles which is world famous. I’d love to see your take on such a wonderful place

I look forward to seeing which locations you pick, I have always wanted to visit the Pilbara in WA – I also have memories of growing up in Broome, WA, would be interested to see your take on it. Personally I live in Canberra, – the Capital city of Australia, but would love to see some of the more remote parts of our continent through your lens.

  • That’s so Huge. I haven’t thought about such bigger dimensions of Queen Victoria Building. Though I found it much difficult to see the castle in middle,I felt like it’s a time travel channel like structure.

  • Trey… Melbourne! Please!
(Just not between December 6th and 22nd – I’ll be off in Tasmania at the time!)

  • Such a brilliant photo!

  • Andrea Boyle

Yes, this is a great shot! As for a suggestion, I bet you would like Melbourne. I’d also like to see Perth through your lens as well…

  • Rob

I second Canberra (lived there for a few years) and just some great locations (Canberra week is in March and balloons e.t.c.) [I will be there that week as well]. Tasi….. Went there long before I was into photg but some amazing photo opp there. Be glad it’s now a short flight for you… It’s now a 20 hour flight for me πŸ™

Melbourne! Plenty of lane ways & arcades, great architecture, the river, beaches, gardens and easy to get around. As already mentioned the Great Ocean Road is amazing. Be happy to show you around the city.

Beautiful photo Trey, have you ever look into the Gold Coast Australia ? Depends on where you stay, you can be minutes from the beach and 20 minutes to the beautiful hinterland. There are so many amazing places to capture and so many hidden treasures around, I have been lucky enough to gain access to an old private farm. As soon as you step through these gates you take a walk back in time, everything has been just left for a number of years. If you ever come to the Gold Coast and are interested in photographing this farm I would be more than happy to chat to the owner ( as I know him quite well ).

  • Trey Ratcliff

Thanks so much for all the suggestions ! πŸ™‚

  • Ok…..ok….. I’ll even throw in a nice cold Little Creatures Pale Ale beer for you if you come to Perth. You’re a tough business man Trey!
