Daily Photo – The Icy Blue Lake

Is that water cold? Yes, yes it is.

I know the surface is cold – the kind of cold that makes every human survival instinct go haywire. But I wonder what it is like down at one mile in depth. It must be so strange and eerie down there. If anyone has ever seen any footage or images of what it looks like in those frigid depths, be sure to share!

How often do you drive down and stop at Bennetts Bluff Trey? It’s such an awesome spot. Have you found any other good vantage points along that road?

Well since liquid water is densest at about 40F, it is probably around 40F at the bottom. There may be some pressure effects at a mile down, but it’s still going to be around 40F I’d guess, even if the surface is 85F or if it is solid ice.

  • Yesterday’s and today’s photos are really beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing, Trey!! Have a wonderful Friday.
