Daily Photo – The Sphere of Influence

I thought this sphere was so unusual when I saw it the first time. There’s a radar under there, but the design of the housing is pretty cool and modern… And it sits in the middle of an awesome adults-only swimming pool on the front of the Disney Fantasy… very cool.

Very cool indeed – I bet ‘adults only’ – was a mecca on the cruise!

  • I wonder if it is actually a body-scanner, then… disguised in the makeup of radar… hmm… quite the ruse.

Microwave yourself whilst having a swim!

  • Interesting, great photo, Trey. Have a great Saturday. And please keep the family and friends of those who died or were injured in the Aurora, CO shooting in your prayers, what an atrocity!!!

More likely a stabilized satelite receiving antenna or GPS. Did some crew member actually tell you it was a radar antenna – even Disney isn’t that dumb?

I might skip that pool when we cruise on the Fantasy, but it’s a wonderful photo!

  • More likely a Satellite tv receiver. Radar needs a clear view of the horizon and is usually a spinning beam as in the mid left of the photo.

  • Radar or not, it’s a great image!

Yes – you could be right! 🙂

  • Trey Ratcliff

Ahh no – that was my guess.

  • Nice.

  • Casper van Zyl

Very nic pic, but as Chris said it would be communication and TV from Satellite.Cool all the same.

  • I can almost feel the tingling of errant radio waves coursing through my face from here:)

Great shot. What a cool ship. Really appreciate your posts from around the ship and those you sent while on board. “Many Bothan’s died…” lol — was the best line ever.
