Mountains at Lake Wanaka

Two Father’s Days

I was excited to hear that New Zealand has its own Father’s Day in September! So, this means I get two of them… Anyway, I was kind of surprised to hear this… why wouldn’t there be one universal Father’s Day? This is confusing to me… how could something like this have come about…

Daily Photo – Mountains at Lake Wanaka

Now that I am getting a bit more settled in New Zealand, I’ve begun to make a few short road trips. We haven’t found a house for sure, but we are getting pretty serious in that hunt! It’s a fun process, and we have many good candidates to choose from. Once the whole family gets settled, it will make everything a bit easier with the photography!

A few days ago, we took a mini-road trip to Lake Wanaka. It’s only about 2 hours away, and the mountains are pretty crazy. This day was extremely windy, so it took all of my manly weight to hold down the tripod when I took a short mini-hike to get this shot…

well youre so right. how can they dare to have their own holidays? i mean, every single country in the world should adjust their holidays to the USA, right? I mean, are they crazy? They dont even synchronize their seasons! Summer in January in new zealand? HOW CAN THEY DARE???

  • Trey Ratcliff

Well – I don’t care whose date is official… where ever the tradition started should be universal.

  • Casper van Zyl

Then how dare you guys wake up when we are about to sleep.hehe!!!

  • Looks like a nice spot Trey. You are making me more excited about my NZ trip in March next year… I planning my 12 day self drive trip using stuck on earth… It is my 40th Birthday Present to myself… I would love to catch up with you and your family for dinner if you’re up for it??

  • Do they celebrate Mother’s Day on a different day as well? Great shot by the way, Trey. I’m jealous of all of the awesome landscapes you get to photograph. On a another note, which lens has been your favorite so far to use with the D800? I’m looking for some advice in the FX Nikon realm, I recently upgrades from a D300 to a D800 and I have a limited selection of lenses that are FX.

  • Beautiful shot – the water even looks cold!!

  • Mothers Day in the UK is actually different from Mothers Day in the US too. Looking forward to seeing the photos of your new pad (when you get it!)

Hi Trey, which way did you drive? via Cardrona or Cromwell? both are great drives

  • Julius Eisenreich

I have in the past criticized Treys pictures. Today I won’t, but I wanted to share someone who I think *really is* an awesome photographer, None of these shots are HDR, which just makes them all the more awesome.

We did it the other way round last time 🙂

  • Hi Trey.

I get very confused as to which part of the world you’re in at the moment. I see pics from NZ and Iceland a day apart, but I’m assuming you’re currently in Queenstown looking to buy a house?

I’m a fellow flickorite who lives in Queenstown. You can see some of my Queenstown pics at:

If you are still in town, must catch up for a photo shoot.and I’ll let you know some of my “secret” spots.

    Peter

  • Trey Ratcliff

    Thanks!

  • Trey Ratcliff

Hi Peter! yes I am in Queenstown… I do post photos out of order, but if I am some place at the moment, I say something like “Today I went to Wanaka” for example… or if it is an old photo, I might just write generically about the location 🙂

  • Trey Ratcliff

and thx for the link! 🙂
