San Francisco on an Early Morning

Kent State Talk Soon!

See you March 29th!  It’s free and open to the public.  Get more location and time information here.

Also, here’s a video that the president just released about the event…

New Banner

So, a few weeks ago we swapped out the “top” of the page so it is not so supa-thick.  I haven’t heard many comments (a few) — what do you think?  Do you like that it doesn’t take you 30 minutes to scroll down to see the daily photo?

Daily Photo – San Francisco on an Early Morning

And speaking of the daily photo, here we go again.  And I’m excited to share this one!

I think this is my favorite image of San Francisco I’ve ever taken.  It wasn’t terribly difficult.  The hike was pretty short, even though there was one dangerous part.  The only other hard part, I suppose, was planning the day/night before so I could stay in Sausalito and wake up early for a quick jaunt over to this area.

  • Super awesome – my new fav too! Now it’s on my background! Super video too – know you’ll have fun at Kent State!!

  • To be honest I hadn’t noticed the banner change. So used to just scrolling down. Awesome photo of the San Fransico bridge.

  • Should have also mentioned. That the new header is much better not having to scroll as much. Especially on ipads etc…

  • JulieWillson

This is different than most photos I see of the bridge. The colors are very cool and I love them. Beautiful!!

  • The banner is much better, especially on the Ipad. The old wan covered the whole screen when viewed horizontal. Also a very nice shot, the composition gives a great sense of how huge the bridge is.

  • Casper van Zyl

Very nice Trey, sorry I cannot attend the Kent State talk but my congratulations from family and self .You are deserving of the praise you will receive, as you have put the hours in for so many for all to enjoy.Best wishes God bless.

  • Wonderful shot Trey… perfectly captured!

  • Renaud Viry

It’s much better not to scroll down to see the latest photo. The banner is great this way !
BTW, very nice shot, as always 🙂

  • I noticed the new banner some time ago, and wondered when you were going to say something about it. I like it!

The bridge photo is just beautiful.

  • Jeanine Moore

The new banner is good but your stuff is worth scrolling for! If it works for you, it works for me.

  • Brian Gray

I’ll be at the Kent State talk!  Can’t wait!

  • Wow, Trey, this is a breath-taking photo!!  I love it!!  It will go on my desktop next.  Enjoy your Tuesday, God bless 🙂

  • JanMazmanian

Love, love, love the new banner. It’s especially great when going from one page to another. Thanks for fixing it.

Love the SFO pic. Can’t have a better topic, and what luck. . . no fog!

  • M C

Yes the new banner is MUCH better!

  • treyratcliff

    Thank you! 🙂

Glad everyone seems to like the new banner better 🙂

  • Coming from a graphic artist, yes Trey… much better. I did like where you were going (with a full page banner on your landing page), but considering your traffic and daily visits from regular followers, I must admit, it did get a little old seeing that each time your page loaded. Now it’s more inviting to at least see the top of a daily post below, more intuitive to scroll down and read on. This isn’t saying I still wouldn’t like to have the opportunity one of these days to give your site a face-lift and rebrand : )  Andrew.

  • Very cool photo.  I like the deep blues and greens contrasted against the morning sun!

  • Mitchell Sacks

Get rid of the banner entirely, it takes up way too much real estate on the screen and really doesn’t serve a purpose.  If you insist on keeping it, remove the hyperlink from it.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve visited your site, and get inpatient waiting for the page to load, so I mistakenly click on the banner so I can start scrolling down with my mouse wheel, and then have to wait for the page to load all over again.  If you want to see a good example of perhaps a better way to do the banner thing, go look at Scott Kelby’s page.  I actually like how he’s incorporated rotating images at the top of his page as well.

Trey that’s another great pic.  Here’s a tip for the next time you are in town.  There is a great sundown shot that can be taken from Treasure Island looking back across the bay at the Embarcadero and the city.  Just a heads up from another photographer addicted to HDR.

BTW, have you ordered a D800 yet.  I’m waiting for mine.  Apparently the tests by DxO labs are off the chart.

  • Huh.. I didn’t even notice the banner changed but yeah, now that you mention it, my scrolling finger expresses much gratitude to the SIC team for putting the page header on a diet.

  • I usually only see your posts in my RSS reader, so I don’t see the banner at all. That said, I clicked through for this post and the page as a whole looks great on my iPad. Thanks for all the photos.

  • @treyratcliff:disqus Great image of the Gate. I love the colors in this.

  • Such a beautiful shot Trey, thanks for sharing! Seeing your work was the reason I picked up a camera.

  • jamesbjenkins

Trey, I think this is one of your best ever. Just stunning!

  • Justin Isaac

I didn’t notice the change until I read you text but yes I do like it better. It still gets across the feeling of the blog without taking up the entire screen first.
