Daily Photo – Little Church in Yosemite

While in the meadows between the mountains of Yosemite, I did not expect to see this little church.

And waiting for the right kind of light was another challenge.  The light down in the valley is so strange.  The sheer walls of the mountains on both sides are so steep that the sun disappears quite early in the day.  Everything becomes a little-bit-dreamy then, and I felt like that was a good time to take the shot.

Smashing!  What a find and perfect processing.
    Really nice Trey.

  • Lovely image. Looks quite nostalgic to me, with just the one light above the door.

I’ve never seen this little church before.  Nice comp—although I find my eyes drawn away from the church to the bright area in the tree above and to the right of the steeple.

  • Great find! Love the colors.

Nice shot Trey! I’d forgotten about that church. I lived next door to it in the 1970s when I worked in the park.  I’m sure the funky house I lived in is gone now.  While I was there, my parents came up and re-affirmed their marriage vows while I witnessed and played music. Thank you for the sweet memory! 🙂

  • Superb, as usual. Did you do anything specific with white balance?

  • The color of the church compared to its surroundings makes for a great photo.

Wonderful capture, Trey…the old chapel looks just as it did when I married my bride there 34 years ago.  Built in 1879, this chapel is the oldest structure in Yosemite Valley (Former President Ulysses S. Grant’s memorial services were held there in 1885.)  The chapel survived the “great flood of 1997,” when the Merced River peaked at 10,000 cubic feet per second and rose to the level of the window sills.

  • Ugh! So gorgeous! I wish I could get married there!
