Chance of a Lifetime – Join me on an Around-the-World-Trip

Join me and +Tom Anderson (yes, the MySpace guy!) on a secret adventure around the world, from one side to the other and back around again. Countless cities. Endless adventure. You’ll be paid. You’ll be fed. You’ll be given shots to protect you from Dengue Fever.

Are you a DP/SHOOTER with impressive experience? Can you meet all the criteria below?

Shooting an independent documentary. This is going to be a bare bones ENG style crew with no “official” camera assist.

DP/SHOOTER who has documentary experience. Must know how to set up & light interviews. Must be able to run & gun.
• DP/SHOOTER is expected to manage and prep all their own gear.
• Showrunner/Director will also assist with camera prep when necessary, or shoot B-camera.

We will probably shoot on something like the Sony EX3 (or its equivalent). We may also shoot some DSLR for b-roll/character saga sells.

Daily Photo – Epic Iceland

I have many things in common with Tom. One of them is the love of “Epic” scenes. These mostly come from movies, but it spans many different pursuits. He’s the only other guy I met that can also quote scenes from Lawrence of Arabia.

So, obviously I do like to find epic scenes in the world, and I feel like Iceland is full of them. Capturing them the right way is another ball of wax, but that is most of the fun.

Sounds like an epic adventure!  If only I could get time off from work.  I’m sure you’ll create something great

  • Casper van Zyl

I dont have that kind of experience, but would certainly like to be a fly on the wall as they say to gain some experience.  i give this one a Wow factor

  • That would be crazy! Getting to travel around the world doing documentary/photography work with two other photography gurus sounds like an opportunity of a lifetime. If only I was a good fit to the criteria, I would have already sent an email. Anyways, that’ll be pretty epic. Hope you find a good match!

  • Wow, that’s going to be an amazing experience for someone and I look forward to seeing the results of this trip.

This is one of my favorite photos that you’ve posted.  I love the composition, the placement of the canoe, the grass covered roofs, and how well it conveys the size of the mountain in the background.  Perhaps not the most interesting sky compared to some of your other photos but it still looks nice, and while you can control composition you can’t always control the size and placement of clouds.

  • beautiful shot of Iceland Trey – your and Tom’s ‘adventure’ sounds super fun – will look forward to seeing it!

  • Great shot, so much detail. What are all those stakes in the ground on the left? The composition gives you a great sense of depth (again that 3D look!).

Regarding the event: epic indeed! I don’t have any experience at all, but am willing to learn! Can I come as a paid intern?

  • Gernot Schulz

wow just an amazing idea! i had my epic adventure on 3 wheels a while ago and part of me still hasn’t arrived 🙂
    iceland is indeed “the” farie!

Your Iceland photos are truly epic. I think this is my second favorite of all your photos. Sorry I can’t apply for your epic adventure.  I’ve already planned my own adventure to Europe.

Just wish that you needed a little old Granny with a cheap point and click to accompany you………..sigh.

  • Very interesting opportunity! I’m envious of the final applicant 😉

  • Another job opening that I’m woefully underqualified for – I guess the hunt goes on, that is unless you need someone to make the tea on the road – i’m good at that! 🙂

I love today’s Iceland image – imagine waking up to that scene every day? Stunning!

  • PS – Denghe fever sucks – my cousin had it a few years ago and it wasn’t pretty…..

  • Great shot of the Bolungarvík Museum. Great place, I love it.
And I am soooo sorry, that I can not take the trip. I hope you find someone wicked cool to take it and report from it.

  • Oh yes!  Having had dengue as a 13 year old kid growing up in Fiji, I can attest at first hand how bad it is.  Took me quite some time to recover, and my immune system was knocked for about 3 years afterwards.  It put a serious dent into my competitive swimming training, that’s for sure, but at least I survived the virus!

  • Stephen Zacharias

This is a place I would certainly like to visit sometime.  I think I have always been interested in Iceland but thru some of your images and others it has only confirmed my desire to see this place. I would echo that this would rank as one of my faves of yours as well.

Wow, Great photo, Trey.  It has all of my favorite things in it!!!!  Just beautiful.  It’s going on my desktop next.  Thanks so much, have a great day!!!!

    Thank you Stephen 🙂

Thanks – I always forget the name of this place!

  • Nicolas Pelletier

Hey, is this where you shot this?

Very nice picture. Good luck with the people search. I’ll go back to my code now!

  • I love today’s Epic Capture!
    I’m going to pout for a moment here… 🙂
I found the requirements for your project to be a little surprising, considering two engineer-minded dudes -turned Digital Adventure Artists and you, being sort of the opposite of conventional photography establishment, to be looking for such a classical, cinematography-esque shooter.

That tells me this isn’t a grassroots project but something a little more “next level”.   Sure as hell wish I had the experience base you are looking for but – I don’t.

Well, you crazy-kids have fun, if you need me, I’ll be pouting over a hand-crafted Margarita at an epic local beach, hitting refresh on SIC to see what you come up with on this one..

  • Fabulous shot! I am hoping that 2012 will take me to some epic places such as this! Thank you for your daily inspiration!

  • Jenna Amo

Hey Trey I wish I was qualified to be your shooter! I have been reading your blog every day for years now and I am very excited for you and Tom and jealous of whoever your hire!

  • Leonardo Matheus Marion Jorge

Ow man, this really is a one in a life time oportunity, but that’s one I’m not ready yet to take, many years of experience to have a chance. But how will I envy the lucky guy that goes with you!

  • I recall the previous image (and video) from this location.  That was beautiful…this is even better!  Hope your epic adventure takes in Ireland – if it does look me up!

  • Love these sunset shots! Nice work Trey!

Also, whoever gets to go on that trip if you need an assistant to carry stuff, let me know!

  • Found it!  Wow, that’s an amazing offer!!
