The Wicked Show

I made a Flatbooks Google+ page with all the details of the free eBook. But maybe some of you have already seen this… if not, enjoy!

Daily Photo – The Wicked Show

I was in a hangout the other night with Chee Chew from Google, and, somehow, the topic of musicals came up. It turns out that he’s a huge fan of musicals and he saw Wicked here in London also. I would have never taken that guy for a big fan of musicals… and I suppose there are many lurker-musical fans out there… are you one of them? It’s okay… you can admit it… you’re amongst friends here πŸ™‚

  • Very cool shot! What is that blinding blue/white light in the lower left? Just curious…

  • No comments?! Is there a problem with the site! I hope not! Perhaps I’ll be the first then. Great picture as always Trey. A work colleague just walked past my screen and noticed me staring at this picture. She said ‘Oh that’s very nice! Is it one of yours?’ I said No πŸ™

@Keith Moyer, if you look at the image (at Original Size) on Smug Mug, it appears to be someone holding up a iPhone or other smart phone and taking a picture of the stage. I’m sure Trey will correct me if I have this wrong. It did make a cool effect in the end result. Trey, was this hand held or tripod, can’t imagine they let you in with a tripod.

Cool shot Trey! I love musicals – they are lots of fun!

  • I saw that show this summer! Not as good of a seat as yours though(I was way up top!) πŸ™‚ Got the ticket 2 hours before the show though….hahaha. Cool image. U didn’t drag the sticks in did ya? NInja Ratcliff style strikes-again!

  • Patrick Ahles

I guess this light is someone with a laser trying to fry your sensor :)? Nice colors!

  • I’m secure enough in my manhood to admit to being a huge musical theatre fan. Wicked and Les Miserables are probably my two favourites. Nice to see you were obeying the “no photography” rule here πŸ™‚

  • Thanks!

Pete – I forgot to post at Midnight last night… so maybe you were the first to see it this morning! πŸ™‚

Fantastically, wonderful photo of the Wicked set Trey! Seeing your photo immediately brought back vivid memories of the play. I loved that play… it was amazing. I’m a big fan of really good musicals like Wicked, Sound of Music, Phantom, Billy Elliot. I tried to get a photo of the Wicked set at the Princess of Whales theatre in Toronto, but security shut me down before I even got a shot off. I saw Le Mis and Cats some years ago and came away from both feeling pretty disappointed. Le Mis was miserable and Cats was a dog (had to say that.. ha, ha). I guess musicals are like photographs… they can’t all be winners!

Wicked in London is absolutely amazing. I’ve seen it 3 times now and each time it gets better.

I took my 13 year old nephew and was a bit concerned he wouldn’t like it. But, I shouldn’t have worried, his comment afterwards was, “Wow! That was like watching a movie live!”

I’m a huge fan of musicals, and I’m with Dave, Wicked and Les Mis are hands-down favorites of mine, with Phantom and Jersey Boys coming in just behind. I’ll be seeing Wicked again in Austin in January. Love the way you captured the set, Trey! It’s one of the best sets I’ve seen!

  • Vicki Wilson

Very cool shot! My favorite musical was the King and I. I was lucky enough to have been able to see it when Yul Brynner was starring in it years ago, it was awesome!

  • Saw Wicked at the Kennedy Center and loved it. Not a fan of musicals, but I’ll definitely be seeing this one again!

    Wicked picture! /rimshot

  • Very nice – I love the color temps pf all the different types of lights! The more I learn about HDR the more I appreciate different lighting and how best to use it. TY

Wow, I had the same seat for a Bonnie Raitt concert…oh wait.. that was a different theater–in Oregon. But same seats! πŸ™‚ I actually spent the most money I have ever spent on an entertainment ticket this past Summer to see Cirque du Soleil (their performance of Dralion) and I was blown away. The theatrical staff made a big issue of kicking out people with cameras and at $100 per tix, I didn’t want to chance it. I guess some things are only for memories.

How could you make a HDR photo without a tripod? Picture is beautiful

  • Love the colours ,missed this, I was a sleep already. Looks like a grand opera house.

  • I was wondering how you felt about the light from the iPhone, its quite distracting. Would you have wished it wasn’t in the picture or do you think it adds to it?. My other question would be about the moving people. In parts of the lower picture you seem to have masked in one of the original shots because people are static and clear whereas in one section of the photo you have a blur of moving people which look like an overlay of pictures. Was this a deliberate decision or was it to fix issues with the overall picture. It would be nice to understand the issues you had with getting the photo together and what you were trying to get into it and trying to avoid. Its a good location for a HDR shot. The stage is quite interesting.

Wowee!!! This is so beautiful. I missed this yesterday as you hadn’t posted it yet when I was on in the morning. The colors in this photo are just amazing!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing. Now to look at today’s post. πŸ™‚

  • Not a fan of musicals, but wonderful photo Trey!

  • I love musicals! Well I like most theatre. Seen Wicked in that very theatre twice now. Your picture looks as good as being there.

  • That’s pretty sweet. There have been a number of theatres I would love to be able to setup my tripod in.
