Previous Shot from Nearby

I did a post a few months ago called “Dale Chihuly is My Kinda Guy” (follow link for pic), which was shot only a few hundred meters from this place. That’s one of the many cool things about Vegas. Just a few more steps away and you are in a completely different place!

Daily Photo – The Consumer Tube

This is one of the new shopping areas in Las Vegas inside the City Center. At the time I shot this, the mall had just opened and many of the stores had not yet been completed… but the architecture was all in place and it was impressive from so many angles.

While I was there, I saw another dude with a tripod setup. I like seeing other photographers around with tripods… I always give them a brotherly nod of approval.

  • That piece of Architecture is amazing! It’s really well captured and makes me want to head to Las Vegas that much more.

  • great capture tray! looks like someone took a picture of you while you took this shot…

  • As ever, beautifully done. I shot the same image a couple of months ago (as yet unprocessed) and made sure to ask the guy on the info desk at the bottom of the sculpture whether I would be hassled for using a tripod in the building. He was a photographer too and said it was fine. He even pointed out a few other positions offering good interior views. I shot inside the mall for an hour or so then headed out to get some exteriors of the Aria Hotel (immediately behind). As soon as I set the tripod up, I got bounced by a security dude. Oh well…

Nice shot, but Jeez, what a gaudy over-the top bit of architecture that is!

Interesting sculpture, Trey!! This was all under construction when we were there last October. Looks like they have some pretty impressive stuff there!!! To bad we won’t be back there, hubby doesn’t like Vegas or big cities, lol. Thanks for taking me places I can’t go. Great photo, thanks for sharing!!!!

Oh wow cool shot – love the Christmas touch to this one!

  • Nice image. I wanted to mention something random. Your website loads twice every time I open it. I don’t know why it would do this. I’m using Google Chrome. But it loads once and then about a second or two later everything goes blank and then it loads again. Just thought I should mention it. Cheers.

  • I noticed that for this image you chose ISO 100. Why and when do you change from the default Nikon ISO 200?

  • I love the rich colors of this photo. Great capture.

  • You always found a good place for HDR photography.

  • Very nice, great colors and composition. Really great shot.

  • Thanks all !

    Chad – the D3X has 100 ISO — even goes down to 50 !

i was here last month…did take a picture but not with HDR…i never thought its ok to bring a tripod inside…

  • Yeah, my D700 can also go down to ISO 50 but I was wondering if there was a reason you changed from the default setting or do you prefer to always shoot in ISO 100?

  • Super POV! Very nice image.

I was just there, in fact the day you posted this post I think.. shooting the exact same thing from almost the same spot.. I was pretty impressed with City Center and all it’s architecture.. doesn’t appear to have any straight (level) lines anywhere.. I got a couple of good shots of the hotel from the outside at night.. glows nicely 🙂

  • Guess you were lucky (or had an escort on this one)… I asked about the tripod and was told a “big no” – not allowed on MGM/Mirage property… Oh well…

  • Oops… forgot to mention that I ate inside that contraption – actually called the tree house! The place is called Mastro’s Ocean Club – same as Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, CA. The restaurant, atmosphere, service, food, etc. is awesome! If you can’t get out to Vegas and want a great steak, look up the place in Beverly Hills – walking distance from the famous Beverly Wilshire Hotel. 😉
