A Chilly Morning in Boston Common

I had an 8 AM meeting in Boston but woke up round 6 to go walk around the Boston Commons and frolic in the snow. There was no frolicking involved. There was a lot of freezing involved, and it reminded me of a bad morning I had in Kiev with a gypsy cab in a blizzard. I wanted to get down to the harbor for some some other sunrise shots, but did not end up with time… but maybe that’s a good thing because it would have been even colder down there!

boston sure is gorgeous in the winter, though, isn’t it..

  • Hey Trey, had to let you know that I went back through your HDR tutorial word for word, and learned lots of cool stuff. Thank you and keep the awesome pics rolling.

  • Another stunning example of HDR, superb!

  • Is that amazing or what. Love the color graduation of the sky.

  • Trey, a suggestion: if you crop the foreground it would make the composition stronger.

  • DEE

I like the foreground, makes the rest look even more outstanding

What a beautiful early morning scene Trey!

  • Boston? COLD? You must be joking. Like I’ve said before, you don’t know cold until you visit MN/WI in January. It’s cold again here this weekend. The high yesterday was 2. That’s 2 above zero. Every day, I think about how nice it would be to wake up to warmth again. I miss Florida.

  • Yeah, it was freezing down here a couple of days ago….(in the 50’s I mean hehehehe)

LOve this one! Nice to see a vertical shot. I was just wondering why you never seem to do any of those and BAM, there’s one posted. Really Right Stuff’s L brackets are the bomb for quick orientation on the camera by the way. Not what kind you use. Anyway, cheers and great work as always 😛

  • Thanks all!

Birgit – I agree — but the snow on the lane is not symmetrical — and cropping more makes it look a little bit off…

  • That’s ay beautiful shoot!

  • Great shot — love the colors and tones!

  • I love the way you captured the different shades in the sky, as well as how defined the trees look.

  • Trey….I had slight nostalgia looking at this. IT’s been several years since I’ve been to Boston…but I have been there in the dead of winter and I KNOW exactly how you felt about the COLDness. I remember this one time I drove into Boston from So. Maine to see the Blue Man Group perform…it was SOOOO cold that day. snowing, ice on the road and a BITING wind. NO fun, but I LOVE NE. And Boston is always in my heart.

  • Wow, beautiful image. Colors and toning are great.

  • I’m getting tired of winter. PA has been as cold as Boston, I’m sure. I’d like to see the same scene in the middle of summer, too!

  • hehe thanks… I like the cold… but maybe just for short spurts… might be hard to live there all the time.

  • Amazing depth in this photo and the definition really pulls you in!

  • I’m amazed that you can make such a frozen scene look inviting to a Florida boy like me. Very nice.

  • hehe thanks mate!

  • It is very inviting, I also live in Florida. This image makes me believe I am there-if only for a minute. Happy Holidays!!!
