This Week in Tech, MacBreak Weekly, This Week in Google等等。

The TWIT Network Mothership TableThe studio is cool because they have a number of different "sets" there for different shows. This is the main round table where Leo Laporte does some of his biggest shows, like This Week in Tech, MacBreak Weekly, This Week in Google, and many others. He lets anyone in the area come sit in as a guest to watch the live production... and that's a lot of fun too because of all the geeky equipment around. On this particular day, my mom came to sit in the audience (after she got lost and needed Tony to go rescue her!). She brought a load of fudge with her and made everyone happy... she even got a hug from Leo :)- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post, including info on tonight's show, at the Stuck in Customs blog.

第19弹请来了Zack Arias还有 Frederick Van Johnson,他们都来自This Week in Photo;还有来自CameraLabs.com 的Gordon Laing,来自凯尔比传媒的 RC Concepcion,来自Life Through The Lens的Kelli Seeger Kim还有来自数码摄影学院的James Brandon。

MacBreak Weekly with Alex Lindsey and Andy Ihnatko

Leo Laporte and the TWIT Cottage

TWIT Cottage

This was shot with a Nikon D3S and the Nikon 50mm 1.4 Lens. This particular one was shot at f/5.6 (f/1.4 would have made the sign blurry beyond recognition). Other particulars are: ISO 800, 1/500 sec exposure.

Join me live on Video today at 1:30 PM PST

EDIT: See the video recorded here.

On Sunday, tune in to live.twit.tv and join up the chat (click Popout Chat at the bottom) to join in the fun! I’ll be answering photography questions, HDR stuff, and the like.

I’ll be on with Leo Laporte on his big show, The Tech Guy, which goes to over 100 US Cities and XM Satellite. Leo is a real photography enthusiast — plus, he’s cool because he’s into a lot of my other interest areas of science/tech/emergent sociology/etc. If you are looking for some good podcasts, check out some from his network!

The TWIT Cottage

For those of you that don’t know, Leo has established an incredible lineup of podcasts, all of which eminate from this unassuming cottage in Petaluma, California. I’ve been over to the cottage twice, and I grabbed a few photos on my most recent trip.

Most of his guests come in via video skype, but sometimes they come there to the cottage. I was on The Tech Guy a few weeks ago, and while I was there, I took these photos.

In the larger one down below, you can see some of the fudge my mom made for Leo. She said, “He seems like a very nice man.”

And he is! You always wonder… if these people are actually jerks in real life. But he isn’t… just as nice as your instincts hope he is. It’s a good indicator that talent + good karma is a winning combination for the future. Back in the olden days (especially in media), talent and good karma were practically useless. Now, thanks to the internet, clever guys like Leo have no need to succumb to the Machiavellian nonsense of corporate media structures. Even better, he has a direct feedback loop to the audience he serves. Smart.

Daily Photo – Leo, Hard at Work

This photo below is a 5-exposure HDR. It was shot with a Nikon D3X (see my Nikon D3X Review) in aperture priority. The five shots were at -2, -1, 0, +1, and +2. Of course, Leo was moving around betwixt the exposures, so there are some tricks to fix that. It’s all there inside the free HDR Tutorial.

But you don’t need a big expensive camera like that to make HDRs. I have good/better/best suggestions on my HDR Camera recommendations page.

Heavy Industry in Petaluma

Free HDR Videos

Are you just getting into photography and want to see how to take some HDR Photos?  I have a bunch here on the site!  Just check out the HDR Videos link here and there are several to choose from.

I know many people want to see my actual workflow, and we do have that coming up soon in the HDR DVD.  It’s getting closer and closer to release!

Daily Photo – Heavy Industry in Petaluma

This is the second photo I have released from Petaluma.  I stopped there while visiting my mom up in Napa.  I didn’t get to spend a lot of time in the little quirky town, but I did take an hour or so to randomly walk around the town and find interesting bits.

Taking photos near ground-water can be very interesting. And hard! Getting near that puddle is tough because you have to splay out the tripod. Even worse, you gotta kneel down in the muck (since puddles usually involve nearby muck). But, these are all relatively high-grade problems, all in all.

The River Through Petaluma

Looking for good Podcasts?

If you are like me, you don’t have a lot of spare time in the week, so you try to hyper-compress and optimize your media consumption. To that end, I now listen to a few podcasts on a regular basis.  You can subscribe to them all via iTunes for free, or go right to the webpages below.  I have many that I sample from time to time, but the following are some great “regulars”.

Leo in the TWIT Cottage

When I was there, I grabbed a quick photo that I put in this previous post about visiting Petaluma.

Daily Photo – The River Through Petaluma

A few days after the talk at Google (I think the Authors@Google *LINK to video are adding subtitles now, for those of you that have trouble hearing), I went up to Napa to visit my mom and my grandmother. Besides getting a bunch of homemade fudge (which I brought to the Stanford photowalk), I also stopped on the way back south in Petaluma at Leo Laporte’s “cottage”.

I’ve always been a big fan of Leo’s!  Beside just seeing out of one eye (a strange bond I feel with him), I’ve really gotten a kick out of the way he approaches and discusses technology.  In fact, I listen to his podcasts so much that my wife often says, “If I have to hear that Leo ONE MORE TIME, before jamming the radio to get off AUX to FM.”

Leo was in the middle of a podcast when I walked in to watch his operation in person.  We didn’t really get a chance to talk, but he was gracious and said hello quickly while in the middle of the broadcast.  I think he’s very clever with his media powerhouse there.  I was fascinated seeing the operation — everything from the logistics to the electronics – smart.

His whole team was out in the front part of the college, and, while there, I also met Dr. Kiki (Dr. Kirsten Sanford is probably what it says on her degree).  She was as nice as I expected as well – her show is called “Dr. Kiki’s Science Hour” — another nice podcast for your lineup!

After leaving, I stopped in downtown Petaluma to grab some lunch and some internet.  Whilst there, I went over one of the bridges to grab this shot.  I don’t know if the water is always this brown and muddy, but it certainly was this day!
