Trey’s Music List

My Music Playlists – Getting started with the best of World Lounge

As I travel around the world, I’ve picked up an amazing collection of unique music. It’s not for everyone, but if you like eclectic stuff that gets you in a right-brain mode, I think it’s great.

This first list I am releasing is my “World Lounge Mix” – I made an iTunes iMix of it!

Coming soon are some of my favorite songs from other categories, like Ambient New Age, Spanish Guitar, World Music, and more.

What are some of your favorite songs? Share them with me – I’d like to know!

Hans Zimmer for your Right Brain

To me, Hans Zimmer is the Richard Halley one of my fictional story lines. I think the guy is great, and the music fits just about every mood I might have…

For the last week I haven’t been able to stop listening to “Haiti” by Arcade Fire.

I really love the new albums “Contra” by Vampire Weekend & “Transference” by Spoon.

Your Hans Zimmer connection may be through David Arkenstone and Narada. I believe that Hans also plays a Kurzweil. I have seen him on the KORG Karma forums.

I have a friend that runs an internet radio station in Mallorca Spain. He plays a wide selection of Chill through Ambient/New Age. Even some of my stuff on occasions. the site is http://www.cafecody.com Thought you might enjoy it looking at your playlist.

Hi Trey. Thanks for sharing pretty much everything you do professionally. You are an inspiration to me. Looking at your lounge choices, I would strongly suggest you get your ears around Club des Belugas, particularly their albums “Swop” and “Zoo Zizaro”. Also, an old top notch: Satta, from Boozoo Bajou (all their work is awesome, but satta is just out there). I’m an illustrator/painter and enjoy HDR tremendously even though I don’t consider myself a photographer. I work my illustrations in what you could call an HDR style. If you have a chance, check out artzombie.com and tell me what you think. I’d love to hear your feedback.

I can recommend you this piece of work, really fine music “Vassilis Tsabropoulos and Anja Lechner – Melos” or “Ty tabor´s something coming”,different style, great music, anyway.
    Thanks for your hdr tutorial.

You really need to check out the Ultra Lounge CDs, which are all on iTunes, and they have a website. It blows these away, all except for Pink Martini.

Was surprised to see we listen to a lot of the same music. You’d really enjoy artists like: Camiel, Nitin Sawhney, and Röyksopp.

Try trip hop. Or post rock :)

If I may be so bold…I am both a nature photographer (who loves HDR and all that you do) and a downtempo DJ with a bunch of mixes of lounge-ish music online, free to grab. I know of many artists you list in your iTunes mix, and I’d love to suggest that you check out some of my mixes for a flow that will perhaps assist your creative process. I’ve had many visual artists tell me they enjoy them while working on their craft. I’d be honored to count you among them! (Link to mixes on my name)

Dream Theater is my favorite band — profound lyrics[1], brilliant melodies, unconventional music, and emotionally manipulative. They don’t rely on catchy stuff — they prefer to create beautiful art.

By unconventional, I mean unconventional. Some of their songs last half an hour, kind of like symphonies of progressive metal. A few of their albums are dedicated to telling a story (MP2: Scenes from a Memory: a man kills his beloved, and then himself; each song has a different perspective, such as from the man before and after death, the woman, the bystander, and the media).
Lifting Shadows Off A Dream (6:06) — their most underrated song — http://youtu.be/bECsMlSTDCoA Change of Seasons (23:09) — their ‘best’ song with epic lyrics — http://youtu.be/jgKHimdfNrY1 Reading the lyrics will help you appreciate these works of art even more.
