A Street Scene From Paris

I’ve had a ton of fun going back into my unprocessed back catalog and re-processing them with some of these latest tools. In today’s adventure, you’ll see a fairly “harsh” (maybe that is too harsh of a word) treatment of this street scene from Paris.

Daily Photo – The Lonely Dunes

Here’s one of my favorite (and rather simple) photos from Namibia. The deserts there are so beautiful, and it is a little confusing to figure out where to shoot. It all sort of looks the same, in a strange, flowing way. So, I found this all to be a particularly interesting challenge… actually I think everyone at our Africa workshop did!

Rene in Venice

Speaking of Workshops

Come and visit our workshops page to see what’s on tap! In this video below, you’ll see this Wayne Norrie guy that I mention… he’s the first one to speak in the video. What an eloquent dude!

Daily Photo – Rene in Venice

Here’s my bestie Rene in true form. We were in Venice for my workshop during Carnivale, so we all got dressed up and had a fancy dinner. It was completely ridiculous, especially with Wayne Norrie at our table. We’ve never laughed so hard. He said some of the craziest things that I would be nuts to repeat! You can see here how Rene made a short attempt at a rueful rebuttal, but then how was immediately ransacked with a hilarious laugh to which there was no defense.

Portuguese Tiles in Macau

Macau Gambling

Next time I go to Macau, I want to learn more about some of these crazy casino games they have. I’m a big math guy, so I always enjoy learning these games and figuring them out. But they had some of the strangest games they concocted… it might be fun to spend a week there and learn and try to master a different game every day.

Daily Photo – Portuguese Tiles in Macau

I only got to spend one day in Macau, but I tried to use all the time I could to get the drone up for some shots. Macau is a really unique Chinese city because of all the original colonial Portuguese settlers. All these city streets in the old part of the town looked pretty much exactly like their counterparts in Portugal.

Selling Cars in the Barcelona Airport

Thanks again Barcelona!

We had such a great time there during our European tour. We stayed there at the fab Barcelona Arts Hotel and that’s also where I gave my little art talk on the top floor after the photo walk. Speaking of that photo walk, here is the highlight video from the event!

Daily Photo – Selling Cars in the Barcelona Airport

I think this might be the most reflective airport in the world! I took a lot of photos when I was there, but now I wish I had taken a lot more. I don’t know much about flooring, but the effect was so amazing that I wish there were more floors like this in other airports, shopping malls, etc. It might even be cool in a few rooms in your home. I assume it’s quite durable; I think it might have been a white marble. If you ever find yourself here, to maximize the reflection in your photo, be sure to get as close to the ground as possible.

Walking to my Studio

Quadcopter Panorama

On my way to the fjords last year, I stopped to make a 360 video about creating a panorama out of quadcopter photos. In this video, I talk a bit about how I hope to achieve that!

Note this video is a bit bouncy. I’m happy to say now I have some new firmware that does much better stabilization!

Daily Photo – Walking to my Studio

How lucky am I to get to walk to work every day from home? I don’t take any of these niceties for granted, I promise. And there’s Blueberry, our awesome dog, standing on the little stone steps, hoping I will throw her a tennis ball. I swear, these Labradoodles are a bit OCD with the fetching situation. It’s literally all she does other than cuddling and eating.

Anyway, the path doesn’t always look like this… this is a bit of an autumn view when the trees are changing color.

Filming at The Hills

The New Tutorial for Beginning Photography!

This has been a huge hit. I don’t know why I didn’t make it five years ago! Go grab it now in the store or get it included for free if you are a passport member!

Daily Photo – Filming at The Hills

I took this photo while we were getting a few pickup shots at The Hills country club with Bel. I typically do a little bit where I talk right to the camera, and since I stumble around a bit, we need to make some edits so the final video is smoother. So, after I finish my bit to the camera, Bel runs around me while I stumble around and take photos. While we were working on the video tutorial above, Bel was getting some B-roll while I took this photo. So, it might seem in the b-roll that I am pretending to get photos, but this is one of the photos I was actually getting!

The Trees in Arrowtown

Spotify Playlists

I have a lot of different Spotify Playlists, but the one I work on the most is probably the “Feelin’ Groovesalad” playlist. Of course, the name itself is completely nonsensical, but that’s why it’s so awesome.

Daily Photo – The Trees in Arrowtown

Every year here there is an Autumn Festival in Arrowtown, New Zealand. They have all sorts of dinners, parades, activities, and more. People love it. It happens right at the peak of this storied hill behind the town changing colors. When I took this, I had an idea, although I did not execute on it. This was taken with a quadcopter with the camera angled down to be parallel with the angle of the hillside. My idea was to get much closer and to make a giant panorama out of hundreds of photos. It’s a big project, but a fun one I may work on next year.

Singapore from the roof of the Ritz-Carlton

Making super-smooth and dreamy reflections

Today, for Passport Members we have a new video up that shows a technique I’ve been using for creating smooth reflections. It’s kind of a hack, honestly, but as far as hacks go, I think the final result is very beautiful!

Here is an example of the effect in the reflection of Doubtful Sound below:

In this video, you can see how I use the Oil Paint filter in the reflective part of the photo.

Daily Photo – Fun in Russia

It was a wild four days in Russia, I tell ya! I took a lot more people photos than normal… to me that was one of the most interesting things about the country. There were so many charismatic people all over the place! They all we very open to having photos taken as well. I don’t think I got a single rejection!
