A Moody Day in Central Otago

Another fun how-to Passport Day!

If you are a Passport Member today we have a making-of video for today’s photo. I woke up on Saturday here at home in Queenstown, New Zealand to see some beautiful and moody clouds through the valley. So I got up the drone to take some photos. After I sat down, I decided to record the making-of video for you.

Here I show I took three photos, stitched them together, then ran them through Aurora HDR 2018.

Daily Photo – A Moody Day in Central Otago

I don’t exactly understand the weather conditions that make this happen a few times a year, but I think it’s pretty cool. This was taken on the last day of summer this year here in Queenstown (a few weeks ago), and as the seasons change, sometimes the weather gets a little funky like this!

A Textured Venice

Textures Tutorial

It’s been a while since I’ve plugged my fun video tutorial (that also comes with a ton of textures) about how to get this sort of look with your photos. Grab it in the online store here!

Daily Photo – A Textured Venice

This is one of my favorite little tricks whenever the sky gets a bit too boring, but the rest of the subject matter is great. For this texturing, I went a bit more grungy and distressed. It reminds me of some of the museums I visited around Venice. Many of the old paintings had stains and just “time” on them. The colors were often muted and they look like they might have been dipped into the canal from time to time.

Beautiful Manorola from the Air

More Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster!

Hey I’m a big Thor: Ragnorak fan. It’s basically a comedy and Taika Waititi changed the whole formula around. One of my favorite characters was Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster. They’ve started to release all the scenes that were cut from the final movie. Here’s one of them!

I predict that the vast majority of people that see this would agree this looks like a magical place to visit… or even live! You definitely get your legs a daily workout going up and down these hills to eat Italian food and drink Italian coffee. And if you go uphill and downhill enough, you can even get a bit of Italian dessert!

Grabbing a Snack in Istanbul

Reminder on Categories

Remember you can click on the Istanbul Category to see all my photos from this place. I was only here three days, but I tried to make the most out of it! 🙂

Daily Photo – Grabbing a Snack in Istanbul

On my last night in Istanbul, I was really wanting some more night shots, but not around all the main mosques. So I walked down by the seafront to check out what I could see. There was a lot of activity and I thought it was all very safe. I know some people are scared to go to Istanbul, but I wouldn’t give it a second thought. It’s also fun to stop at all these street vendors and have a little taste!

Bel in Venice

Midnight in Venice

Speaking of Venice, here is the tutorial we created while there!

Daily Photo – Bel in Venice

Wow this seems like so long ago! We did a workshop in Venice and the final night ended in a costume party. Everyone got all dressed up and this is our videographer, Bel. We didn’t really do any filming this night, so she could just rock out there in her costume and have a good time!

Tane Going Home in Kyoto

Funny Announcement Video from Taiki Waititi

I don’t know if you’ve seen Thor: Ragnorak, but you should! I was kind of getting tired of super hero movies, but this one was so funny. I think mostly because of the director! He’s a New Zealand guy… check out his intro to the new DVD below.

Daily Photo – Tane Going Home in Kyoto

This shows one of my favorite tiny cultural things in Japan. It’s not just the polite bowing, but it’s the over-the-top polite bowing even as you are walking away! I always feel strange not spinning around and acknowledging the nice bow, but then I’m afraid they would just bow again when I walked away. It would be an infinite loop, and I’d not make it too far.

Autumn Night Streets in Tokyo

The Tokyo Photo Walk

Here is a video from our Facebook live in Tokyo for the fun event. It was great to see some old and new faces! 🙂

Daily Photo – Autumn Night Streets in Tokyo

Right after our photo walk in Tokyo, I decided to have about an hour of wander-around time. I put on my earphones and off I went! It was a really great hour and the colors were amazing. I had been so busy in Tokyo over the previous days that I didn’t really have a lot of chances to get out there and shoot by myself, so this was great fun for me.

The Fourth Behind-the-Scenes video from Antarctica

If you’re a Passport member, then you’re getting to see the next video from Antarctica. These were really fun to make. Today’s is a bit more storytelling, but let’s get started here with a few favorite photos from Antarctica!

The Fourth Antarctica Video!

This one tells a personal story about how some art my Uncle gave me turned out to be a big influence on my artistic life. It also bled into many of my Antarctica photos! Enjoy!

Fort Lauderdale Beaches

New Video Tip

Here’s another how-to video showing how to enhance details in your photos using Aurora HDR 2018. This particular tool, as you’ll see, can only be detected when you are zoomed into 100% or 200% on the image.

Daily Photo – Fort Lauderdale Beaches

Here’s my friend Katie Ann out enjoying the beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She came down with her boyfriend to meet me for the day and take some fun photos. I don’t do a lot of this sort of thing, but I was getting a little bored of JUST taking photos of sand and water and clouds. Don’t get me wrong, I love that sort of thing, but after several thousand, I wanted to mix it up a little. She’s not a professional model or anything, just a cool gal with giant buns.

Man Carrying Rice in Bali

This Rice Field from Above

If you want to see this same location from above, jump forward to the Bali location in one of my favorite videos below!

Daily Photo – Man Carrying Rice in Bali

Man, this guy was so fit! I spent a few hours in some of those tapered rice fields in Bali, and this guy was all over the place. It was hot and muggy and I felt like a chubby blob rolling around the fields, and this guy was chopping and carrying rice like a man possessed. He must have been in his late fifties but he was in amazing shape. It made me think I should really do a lot more hard labor and not be in front of a laptop right now writing about it.
