What the heck is Perfect Browse?

This was my question!

In short, Perfect Browse allows you to quickly preview all of the images during your import, pick the winners, then pass the winners onto Lightroom, saving you time and hard drive space.

For me, the benefit is that it speeds up your Lightroom workflow. It can also be a full Lightroom replacement that is super-speedy, but I am not using it for that.

I’ll just talk about my own personal use-case, which completes a big problem I have: Slow Workflow with Lightroom.

Let’s face it, Lightroom is slower than Christmas in lots of ways. And it just seems to get slower and slower with every version. Am I right or am I right? I’m right!

Here you can see the very simple interface. Also, you can see how I have LOTS of photos of these camels, so it’s nice to pare it all down and pick the winners. It’s very fast to hit spacebar and see full screen to see what is in focus and what isn’t. I can also quickly see the best compositions… a huge time saver over Lightroom!

Why would I add something else to my workflow? Won’t that just slow down to overall workflow by adding more software to the mix?

That was one of the longest H2 titles I’ve ever made.

Consider stage 1 of the workflow: During import, you must pick the winners from the losers. This requires you to see previews, and often full-screen previews with the ability to zoom into 100%. If you all use Lightroom, you know how frustratingly slow this is. Slow boat to Lightroom China.

Since the first step often requires you to pick the best photos from a series, Perfect Browse’s hyper-fast preview and selection mode makes this very fun (instead of very frustrating in LR).

Over on the left side, you can see how I’ve just selected to show the photos I marked as “Green” which are ones I think are worthy of working on!

After I filter all my selections, I simply select all, right-click, then send to Lightroom!

Other Benefits

Hard Drive Space Saving

A second great aspect is it saves you quite a bit of hard drive space since you’ll only be importing the “winners” into Lightroom. Sure, you could delete the “losers” from Lightroom, but remember that you’d be spending a lot more time in LR on the selection process because of the slow previews.

File Renaming

Since you’re now going to be bringing a subset into Lightroom, you have a chance to rename everything to make it all a tad more organized.

Full On-One Suite Integration

If you’re a fan of the full OnOne Suite (I am! See my full OnOne Review), then this has a full integration. It’s just a new tab up there along the top. In fact, it’s the first tab, so this means you can make OnOne your one-stop shopping if you really use the OnOne software and filters a lot.
