Lisbon, Portugal : Photo Adventure

Join me for a week in Lisbon, Portugal for a true Photography Adventure!

Come explore Europe’s second-oldest capital, the City of the Sea

Every year I personally take a small group of people to an exotic location for a Photo Adventure… Venice, Namibia, Paris, Tokyo, London, New Zealand and now Lisbon. This photo adventure will be incredible and FULL of SURPRISES just like all the others!

I custom-design these trips to exceed everyone’s expectations and I believe so far we have! My idea of “roughing it” is slow room service, so we stay in luxurious accommodations, we eat amazing food, we drink fine wine, we gain access to exclusive and secret spots, most of the time while laughing and having the time of our lives!

Not to sound overly new-agey or self-important, but there is another philosophical aspect to these amazing events. I have personally found that being creative and artistic has added a layer of peace and tranquillity to my life, and by working closely together over the week, perhaps some of the techniques I share will rub off a bit. So, it might appear we’re just taking photos together, but really there is a lot more going on. Well, you’ll see. Your only regret will be if you miss out!

The Adventure begins April 15, 2017!

We’re excited for this adventure because not only will we be exploring Lisbon and the coastal areas but we’re staying at the unbelievable Penha Longa Resort in the Sintra Mountains! This amazing Ritz-Carlton property dates back to a 14th century Monastery, it’s truly remarkable. The adventure will be April 15 – 20, 2017 and we’ve worked closely with the resort to design a unique and unforgetable experience. The staff there is extremely nice and accommodating. We’ll make sure that all your needs are met!

About Trey Ratcliff and the Photography Instruction

Trey Ratcliff (that’s me speaking in the 3rd person) will be leading the workshop and we’ll generally focus on HDR photography with a variety of landscapes, architecture, people, street, and night scenes. By the way, if you want to learn more about me visit my profile page on my blog, or my Facebook, Instagram or YouTube channel.

Each day will begin just before dawn for a sunrise shoot at an interesting location. We’ll return to the hotel for a late breakfast and spend the afternoon learning post-processing techniques using the photos we captured earlier. There is a lot of personalized instruction too, as I will walk around and sit with you individually to make sure you are understanding all the techniques and help get your photography to the next level (or more!).

We’ll head back out to shoot the sunset and then head to dinner. You won’t get a lot of rest, but you’ll have a ton of photos, amazing times, and create all sorts of wonderful memories.

And as always we have a TON of surprises in store. So be ready for anything! You’ll have a blast!

A few more details…

This is a 6 day / 6 night ALL-inclusive experience. You simply need to get yourself to Lisbon, Portugal on or before the morning of Saturday, April 15. We will arrange for your transportation to the Penha Longa Resort. All of the hotel, transportation, food, drinks, parties, hands-on photography instruction and activities are included. You won’t have to worry about anything… we want you to relax, refresh and enjoy every minute of this adventure. Our time together ends on Thursday, April 20th with one last photoshoot and wonderful brunch. You can then head back home or extend your stay a little longer.

We’re often asked for a day by day, hour by hour, itinerary for a trip like this. Here’s my philosophy on this. Don’t worry; let me take care of you. In the “real world” you have to keep track of what is coming up next, how to get from place to place, what to bring, etc. Well this is not the real world; it’s the real fantasy world! Curtis (my right hand-man) and I will let you know what is coming up next… if you need a warm coat or scarf, what kind of cameras and lenses to bring, etc. We really want you to live in the moment and be present with us… Personally, I believe that the more in-the-moment you are, the better you can create art and be one with everything that is happening around you.

Sounds Exciting! Where do I Sign Up?

Time Lasts Forever in Paris Oh Paris! Le sigh…These were not the ideal shooting conditions, as idyllic as the scene might appear. This is all handheld, btw, no tripod, and here’s the rest of the sad tripod story. To get to this spot, you have to walk to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. My first few times there, I did not even know you could get to the top! I felt quite dumb when I found out you can walk up about 20,000 stairs to get here.Once I got up there, I staked out a position with my tripod, and then Frenchy McFrenchface came over and told me I could not use my tripod. I explained that I was an arteeeest, and surely he would in the 19th century no one asked the impressionists to put their easels away. This was a losing argument, although I still think it’s a pretty good one. It will work one day, and I won’t give up this line of persuasion.- Trey RatcliffClick here to read the rest of this post at the Stuck in Customs blog.
