HyperMac Review

The HyperMac is an external battery that I carry around in my laptop bag that I use:
- When the battery on my Macbook runs out
- When the battery on my iPhone runs out. I believe, on my model, the battery will recharge it 35 times!
- To charge up my iPad… my charging problems seem to be multiplying!
Can I tell you how often this happens? Waaaaay too much! I can’t believe how often my iPhone or computer runs out of batteries, and I just can’t find a power outlet.
And I think this happens to a lot of people. I was just at a conference… and I am NOT kidding. Two guys behind me tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around, and they were showing me their HyperMacs too! Hehe… I think it is a new trend!
iPad not Charging
Now that I have the iPad, I seem to be having a lot of trouble keeping it full of juice. I’ve tried every combination of computers and laptops and USB plugs. When I’m away from home, I just use the HyperMac to get it done… If I am at home, I plug the iPad directly into the wall with the plug that was included. That seems to solve my iPad Charging problems. If any of you have other experiences, let me know. I’m not yet sure how many times my HyperMac will recharge the iPad — surely not as many times as the iPhone, but I will keep testing and let you know.
This is a shot from their website — a good example of the relative size of the smaller one.
You can see the HyperMac in the video below:
Of course, if I am ever near an outlet and I have a long time to sit by it, I can charge up, but that isn’t always the case. It’s very handy to have this light, little battery around for these sorts of circumstances.
I think I have had to dip into the battery about 6-7 times in the past month. Sometimes for my laptop – sometimes for the iPhone – sometimes for both!
It’s very easy to use. It has both a power-out that goes to the mag-safe connector on my Macbook. It also has a USB plug so that I can get my iPhone right in there for charging. This is usually a great option for fast charging my iPhone even when I have laptop battery left. Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes I have to open my laptop to even get the iPhone battery charging!
I enjoy just walking around, knowing that stuff in my laptop bag is getting automatically recharged.
I bought the HyperMac MBP-150 (available on that link in the HyperMac Store). There are different models to choose from, depending on how much extra battery life you want. It says it gives my MacBook Pro 17″ 16 hours of battery life. I’m not quite getting that – but I do get over 10. On my trip to New Zealand, I used up all my internal battery and then started using the HyperMac – I did not use it up entirely, so I certainly had plenty of extra just in case.
HyperDrive – Backup Photos on the Road
There is another product from that same company called the HyperDrive. Mine is currently on the way. I have the previous gen of their device that was called the “Colorspace UDMA” – it was an amazing product that I used to backup all my photos on the road. It never failed and works flawlessly. This new one has a great new UI and OS, so I am excited to see it!
