At one point when driving through Yellowstone, I randomly got out of the car and started walking right into the forest on the edge of the road. There was a thick fog, and the morning sun was low, creating an unexpected box of light. I kept walking and walking until I found this area. It just felt right for whatever reason, so I set up to create this in HDR.
I had a wonderful week here in Montana. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to this private conference here in Yellowstone a few times now. We get together and talk about science, art, Libertarianism and all sorts… It’s a very cool and interesting collection of people each time. One evening while processing my thoughts I took a walk around the main cabin. The horses come graze all around the meadow in the evening and I finally convinced one of them to stand still for a bit.
This place in Yellowstone is awe-inspiring and huge. Want to know how huge? Look at those people standing there on the boardwalk towards the top. To get this angle, I had to walk up an uncharted hill/mountain thing that looked a lot easier on Google Maps to ascend than in reality.

I was out in Yellowstone all by myself on a hike to get this shot. It probably wasn’t the smartest thing in the world because there could have been a grizzly bear or something! But, I figured I had a tripod so that I would have been perfectly fine defending myself.

This is the first photo I’ve ever taken while I was super high on weed. I actually like other drugs much better than weed; pot tends to make my head feel dizzy and tired. I was out at a ranch in Yellowstone and one of my friends there had one of those pot pens. Anyway, I tried some and then decided to go take pictures of wild animals. I don’t know why. But I sat in a bush for about an hour and then a mommy fox appeared! Did you know a female fox is called a “vixen”? I didn’t know that but now I do…

In the middle of the summer, I visited my friend’s ranch in Yellowstone. I stayed there for a bit over a week and it was an amazing trip! The ranch holds about 15 people, and every few days, a helicopter would arrive to bring more guests in and take other guests out. The horses on the ranch now are so used to it, they completely ignore the chopper and just chomp away on the grass.
While I was staying with friends in Yellowstone, there was a new family of foxes that were living under a nearby barn. I went over there one day and sat under a tree like a hunter for about an hour. There were three or four cute little cubs. Is that what you call a baby fox? I did find out what you call a female fox: a vixen! I didn’t know that… Who comes up with the names of these things, anyway? That’s a good one.
