Daily Photo – Having a Dip in the Pool in Bora Bora
Is there any place better in the world? I’m not sure I can think of one while staring at this scene! Which should you get in? The body-temperature sea with the sand beneath your toes, or the body-temperature infinity pool where there is a little place to set your drink and nachos. Decisions, decisions!
I had just arrived at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora when I took this and what an amazing time it was there. This is the view from the Sunset Bar, and you can see the bungalows glowing under the ancient volcano.
I took this with a Leica 21mm f/1.4 lens. Much to my shock, I recently lost this lens and I have no idea where in the world it is. I’ve actually lost a few lenses and I just can’t figure out how I can be so irresponsible. Oh well, it gives me the chance to get new ones and do a little upgrade!
Here’s another of those fun Bora Bora shots from back when drone photography was a case of throwing a GoPro up in the air with some blades attached and hoping for the best, mixed with a little bit of experience. Thank you, photography gods.
Here’s a photo from my trip to Bora Bora back in 2014. Back then it was a good old GoPro that you attached to your drone. No built-in cameras on those older models. Changed days now with some great sensors on even on the consumer DJIs.
Here in Tahiti is one of the first places I took my family on an exotic location. The kids loved it. They basically stayed in the water 100% of the time. When I wasn’t playing with them, I would sneak away to take photos of this incredible archipelago.
Here’s an image back from when I was first playing with drones. Back then you had a GoPro attached to it and sent it off on its journey, pretty much guessed the shot and brought it back. You never knew what you’d get until later. It was lots of fun but the more recent models are definitely an improvement!
When the mood strikes me, I often create tip videos for Passport Members! I do at least one a week, and after they are over a year old, I share them here with everyone. Here’s one of them about some compositional photo tips while at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Daily Photo – To Swim with Sharks
For some reason on our family trip to Bora Bora, we decided to go swim with sharks. This is a photo from the boat ride out there. It could not have been more serene and beautiful. The serenity only made everyone more nervous. Well, I wasn’t worried… I’m just not a worrier, I suppose. I don’t think they would have let us do it if it wasn’t pretty safe. Resorts aren’t in the habit of actively killing their guests. Even my daughter Isabella, who is the biggest worrier of the group, jumped into the fun!
Join me for a recent Live FB show where I tell a few stories from Antarctica!
Daily Photo – Decisions, Decisions
Which one to swim in? Is it better to swim in the pool that is body-temperature or the ocean down below where it’s also body-temperature? These are the kind of life-or-death decisions you have to make on vacation sometimes. In this particular case, I chose both and was pretty happy with both decisions. This was shot at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora — what a spot!
Here’s one of the first quadcopter videos I ever made here in Bora Bora… a little throwback video time! 🙂
Daily Photo – Paddleboard Yoga
Here’s one of my favorite yoga instructors in the world. She was Spanish and always had the funniest little sayings. I would always laugh while she was teaching yoga… something I don’t usually do. One day I was flying the quad and she took the paddleboard out and started goofing around on it so I could get some fun photos like this one! 🙂
