The Fine Art Site

Daily Photo – The Fine Art Site

I’m knee deep in a redesign of the Fine Art site and it’s been a lot of fun to see how we can reimagine it for the new Web 3.0 era while retaining some focus on the physical prints which are just as important. While that’s ongoing, here’s one of my favorites from Series 1. It was one which I loved seeing produced at 2.5meters across. It’s like you can step into it and I love that… even more so when up close because the whole thing almost envelops you.

Phoenix Ancient Town at Night

Daily Photo – Phoenix Ancient Town at Night

If you ever make it to China, try to take a week or so to explore the more rural areas. Some of my best adventures have been outside Beijing, Shanghai and the like. Even the Great Wall is in many ways better in the more overgrown parts. Here in Phoenix Ancient Town (Fenghuang Ancient Town) I wandered for hours. Regardless of the time of day there was something amazing to photograph.

The Temple of Heaven, China

Daily Photo – The Temple of Heaven, China

The Temple of Heaven is one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations for Chinese people who come to Beijing to visit structures upon the central axis. It was originally built in the 1400’s. I was invited by the Chinese government to come take special photos of their most important structures, so I was lucky enough to have the military let me into these places early while no one else was around. On this same trip, I was also arrested by the military for flying my drone over the “Forbidden City,” but that is a longer story that ended up with a hilarious ending. Obviously, I made it out of Chinese prison… one of my greatest accomplishments.

The Water Wall

Daily Photo – The Water Wall

I was looking through my portfolio for a project and stumbled across this image which I don’t think I’ve ever shared on the blog. Somehow it slipped through the cracks! Speaking of projects, check back tomorrow for something new!

Pacific Coast Highway. USA.

Daily Photo – Pacific Coast Highway. USA.

5:30 AM. Alarm goes off. It’s always painful. People that say they are “morning people” — I think they are lying. But, when in a beautiful place like here along the Pacific Coast Highway in California, I always force myself, military style, to pop out of bed. On this occasion, my room had a little fireplace and everything which made it even harder to get out of bed! After I got downstairs, I started a little hike to get a good vantage of the coast and the sunrise.

The Grand Prism. USA.

Daily Photo – The Grand Prism. USA.

This place in Yellowstone is awe-inspiring and huge. Want to know how huge? Look at those people standing there on the boardwalk towards the top. To get this angle, I had to walk up an uncharted hill/mountain thing that looked a lot easier on Google Maps to ascend than in reality.

The First Time I Ate Horse. Iceland.

Daily Photo – The First Time I Ate Horse. Iceland.

My friend Helga has been wonderful enough to invite me to her farm in Iceland many times. It’s always a fun trip up to the north to see her. But I always get a little lost. Finding the particular turn-in along this fjord is constantly a source of confusion, especially at night. I don’t know why it is so difficult to me, because after I get there, it is plain as day. And I’m sure all Icelanders think I am crazy… but it’s like a hidden door, fey and fleeting with the light, and you can only see it during certain portals of time.

3 AM. Iceland.

Daily Photo – 3 AM. Iceland.

When I started getting hardcore into photography, I spent four summers in a row in Iceland. The middle of the summer is quite special there because the sun never really goes down. So, I would sleep during the day and then go out to hike during a 5-hour sunset followed immediately by a 5-hour sunrise. It was very peaceful and moving…

Sunrise Walks in Queenstown

Daily Photo – Sunrise Walks in Queenstown

It’s time for some beautiful morning walks along the beach here in Queenstown. Well, I don’t know if it’s really technically a beach because it’s all rocky. I don’t really like rocky beaches… I like the feel of the webbing of my toes in soft sand… also, I’ve always had pretty sensitive feet so I find walking on rocks to be annoying and I’m too lazy to build up a resistance to it. That ship has sailed…
