Stairway to Heaven

Heaven is sort of a relative place, and I imagine it would be relatively close to this place — the first class lounge of Qatar Airlines. There you get everything from silken robes to delicate doilies on which to place your tomato (pronounced tom-ah-to) juice.

The Shed in the Forest

A tiny little shed surrounded by huge old trees by Slough Creek in Yellowstone, just on the edge of the border between Montana and Wyoming.

The Elevator that Awaited me after Chernobyl

I had a relaxing weekend and was finally able to go back and look at some shots from an ill-advised but very fun trip to Chernobyl. My mom is still not too happy about that one…

This is the “cozy” elevator that awaited me after I got finished with the radiation detox and cleanup area. Note that it was nothing like T’Pol and Travis, if that scene rings a bell…

Ukraine was a rough place, to say the least… that little red light on the elevator was a little alarming since I did not know if it meant there was a problem or if it was ready.

If you missed it, you can read the whole story about the trip to Chernobyl at this link.

And here is a shot of me holding a Geiger counter that the Russian soldier let me borrow… it was clicking away, giving me a little fright.

Another Animal!

Daily Photo – A Giraffe on the Savannah

I know you guys and gals liked that crazy camel with the pretty sky… here is another one… this time of a giraffe. It’s not like I need to tell you that… I should assume you know your animals. I wish I could say I shot this in Africa… but I can’t because it was from Disneyworld! We had a room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and these giraffes would walk right by our window all day and night long… a little surreal to wake up and see that!

Camel in the Wild

This Dromedary, or as I like to say, this open-toed ungulate, was running at full speed as I managed to grab this quick one before being trampled. I was just kidding about calling it an ungulate…. only a nerd would do that (looks nervously both ways).

Isabella and the Accident

I’ve never posted videos before… and this one has nothing to do with photography… just a funny little thing that happened at home this weekend.

Air Dry

This colorful area, painted by Indonesian children, was found in the back alleys of Jogjakarta. Everything was so nice and colorful I had to stop for a few shots!

Bucket-head

While I was in Montana, I was able to stay with a good friend.  As part of the "payment" for staying there, I offered to take a few shots of his adorable grandkids.  Here is one of the ones that came from the click-fest.  This was shot inside of a teepee, which has excellent light reflectivity, for those of you that ever get the urge!

A Texas Summer Vacation

I came down to Horseshoe Bay for a little family thing this weekend… I haven’t been taking too many shots, but I was reminded of a few of my favorites from around this area, which is really just right by Austin!  The first is of a nice sunset on the lake and the other is from a Texas summer t-ball game.

There were no fireworks, but there was this pretty sunset

A Hyper-black Printing of this shot

I spoke at the Austin Shutterbug meeting a few nights ago and the gentleman that invited me, Pete, had taken one of my shots and printed it with a very cool printing process. This thing came out as black as Zaphod Beeblebrox’s stolen ship…

If you want a print of it, contact me and I can hook you into Pete, who knows about such things.

The shot below was of a red firework exploding in a storm cloud in the black of night.

This Week in Photography – Last Week

It looks like this blog was mentioned in This Week in Photography, which is a most excellent podcast, whether or not they mention this site. I always pick up a few good tidbits on there.

In honor of them, I have had to make a cut to my top 10 shots. I took one of the new ones from Glacier and put it in there, and one had to fall… it was a tough pick, but here is the one, going down in flames in the Duomo… You had a great ride in the top 10 old friend…
